Senior UX Designer

**Introduction**

Our **Senior UX Designers** shape engagements and lead our user research, to help us explore, craft and improve intuitive and inspiring websites for public sector clients. You’ll have proven user-centred design experience and detailed knowledge of UX methodology and practices.

**About the role**

You will be an expert at designing services from end to end and improving existing services that are underperforming. Your work will be primarily self-initiated with guidance from our Experience Director and Creative Director. Experience of working with service/product owners and senior stakeholders is essential, as is the ability to take a pragmatic approach to meeting a client’s needs. You will be at the heart of everything we do to deliver impressive quality work for our public sector clients. Our mission is to help the NHS, Police and other public sectors make digital services that are easy to understand and use. You must be familiar with working together in cross-functional teams and be able to lead on all areas of the Discovery phase. You will build good rapport and strong working relationships with colleagues and clients and be able to articulate your processes in a jargon-free manner. We will also need you to roll your sleeves up and be a natural leader and be comfortable making quick, pragmatic decisions in a way that balances the needs of the team, project and client.

**Responsibilities**
- Work at all stages of the research and design process.
- Plan, facilitate and analyse user research.
- Create research outputs, such as personas, experience maps and sitemaps.
- Turn research and testing findings into design concepts, at varying levels of fidelity - from sketches to wireframes / rough UI designs.
- Create prototypes at varying levels of fidelity.
- Lead workshops with clients and users.
- Present research findings, designs and their rationale to senior stakeholders.

**Requirements**:

- A minimum of four years’ experience as a UX Designer (or similar).
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant design field or equivalent practical experience.
- Must be confident working with senior stakeholders, demonstrating how user research and service design analysis techniques have been used to support the design decisions.
- Experience in the GDS Digital Standard.
- Exceptional understanding of user-centred design principles.
- Practical experience of UX design, research methodologies and practices.
- Expertise in design tools such as Sketch and Abstract (or similar tools).
- Experience working in small, cross-disciplinary design teams.
- Excellent organisational skills, time management and attention to detail.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- To be happy to travel to our office from time to time and to work on-site with clients if and when that is needed.

**Location**

We are a remote-first business, with people based all around the UK. However, our Leeds city centre studio, just a few minutes walk from Leeds railway station, is open for those that want to work onsite or you can do a combination of both. You will need to work both independently and as part of a remote team and will have the opportunity to meet the rest of the company at our annual company meetup and with members of the rest of your team on a regular basis.
