Parks Stakeholder Officer

The London Borough of Wandsworth has one of the richest varieties of green open spaces in central London. Enable is the lead contractor employed by Wandsworth Borough Council to manage and improve 32 parks and open spaces as well as deliver leisure services such as outdoor events, filming, sports provision and wellbeing activities throughout the borough.
We work closely with local stakeholders, volunteers and ‘Friends of’ groups who share our aims of providing and making improvements to high quality, well managed and inclusive parks and commons. Working with local communities is at the heart of what we do and the role of the Parks Stakeholder Officer is integral to maintaining long-lasting relationships and providing support for groups and individuals who help deliver park improvements.
We are looking for a dynamic and engaging individual who has energy, ideas and a passion for supporting the community. We need someone who can develop collaborative working opportunities and provide guidance and support, going the extra mile to help our partners. You will have experience working with community groups, small charities and volunteers and you will have a passion for making lasting improvements to a wide range of greenspaces from national flagship sites to pocket parks.
Joining a highly motivated team which specialises in horticulture, infrastructure, participation, engagement and fundraising you will be a team player who has strong self-motivation and the ability to support colleagues as well as work on personal initiative.
You will work closely with our Head of Parks to facilitate participation by our Friends groups, Management Advisory Committees and the wider community, in all aspects of greenspace provision as well as supporting colleagues delivering greenspace improvements and helping to deliver and support stakeholder events.
The role is for 40 hours a week and is based in the Parks Office within Battersea Park. Alternative measures including some working from home may be required in the short/medium term due to Covid-19. You will be expected to travel around Wandsworth to visit sites and meet stakeholders on a regular basis and work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Your Responsibilities
- Attend meetings with Friends groups independently and alongside senior managers, to understand their priorities and key concerns.
- To take responsibility for providing resolutions to concerns, on behalf of the whole parks team.
- To provide regular updates and reports on progress to encompass day to day working and project-specific milestones, both from parks colleagues and from across all other Enable service areas as appropriate.
- To provide ongoing advice and support to groups to sustain collaborative working on shared goals.
- Working in conjunction with colleagues ensures stakeholder groups are informed about and encouraged to participate in, consultation and information sharing exercises.
- Working in conjunction with colleagues, engage volunteers from key stakeholder groups inappropriate aspects of practical landscape management and volunteering for horticulture and biodiversity.
- Working in conjunction with colleagues to provide guidance on logistics and necessary permissions for stakeholder events and activities delivered in greenspaces
- Where appropriate you will support communities to establish new Friends groups
- Assist colleagues with delivering formal consultation exercises including attending meetings onsite and online, giving presentations, discussing improvement proposals and capturing responses and feedback.
- Contribute to management and improvement plans to ensure that developments and improvements meet the needs of stakeholders, and are appropriate for the character of each place.
- Assist with the attainment of external quality accreditation for parks and green spaces such as the Green Flag Award and London in Bloom, in particular, to ensure that submission accurately reflect the contributions of stakeholders.
- To work as part of the Parks Development Team to provide continual service improvements; to ensure activities are integrated and sustainable; to provide cover and support for colleagues, and to attend meetings (both internal and external) as required by the Head of Parks, and to carry out any other duties commensurate with the role.
Your Knowledge & Experience
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification) or appropriate experience in a directly related post.
- Excellent people skills and the ability to create a reliable warm welcome across our parks and greenspaces.
- A positive “can-do” attitude
- Proven experience in building strong and sustainable working relationships with a diverse range of partners.
- Active communication skills with the ability to listen and question to garner an excellent understanding of stakeholder priorities
- The ability to concisely define areas of agreement and difference and to express clear commitments and be accountable
- Ex
