**Job summary**:
Ensuring our customers, stakeholders and staff understand our purpose, our priorities and our values is at the core of our mission as a communications team. At seven-strong, we are small, but punch above our weight and are involved across the breadth and depth of the Inspectorate. There is no such thing as a typical week in the Communications Team. But that is part of what makes the work exciting and challenging.

Working alongside another Internal Communications Officer, the post currently reports to the Head of Communications. The post has dedicated responsibilities, but as we are a relatively small team we all pull together and provide help for each other.

The Planning Inspectorate has a long and proud history in ensuring a fair planning system for England. The work we do has a significant impact on people’s lives, the communities where they live and the economy.

We want our colleagues to be able to work more flexibly and more collaboratively, exploring new and innovative ways to improve the way we provide services.

For further information on the Planning Inspectorate, please see the information pack attached.

**Job description**:
You’ll act as part of a flexible team to deliver internal (corporate) communications and stakeholder engagement activities within the team for the Inspectorate, working to deliver the stakeholder and communications approach, our improvement plan, which in turn enables delivery of the organisation’s strategies.

The post holder will lead and shape the internal engagement activity and act as the first point of contact for internal communications with Planning Inspectorate; sourcing, planning, drafting, and publishing engaging content to increase employee engagement. We have a forward plan of regular activities which you would be involved in running, including our all staff briefing broadcast live to all Inspectorate staff once a fortnight. You will support the creation and delivery of other staff events and internal communication campaigns. You’ll ensure that activities are properly planned, monitored, and evaluated.

On stakeholder engagement, you will help deliver the activities in the stakeholder and communications approach, including building and maintaining the corporate stakeholder list; developing effective stakeholder communication channels and contact lists; and actioning and analysing the regular stakeholder survey. You’ll monitor opportunities to engage with stakeholders and develop a stakeholder engagement plan in conjunction with SIO Media & External Affairs, identifying opportunities and means to reach stakeholders to gather their views. You’ll input into the communications forward look programme of external and internal engagement activity, including managing speaking requests received; and ensure key messages and adequate corporate briefing is provided to speakers.

Monitoring and evaluation, not surprisingly, is a significant part of the role. Monitoring the effectiveness of both our internal communications campaigns activities and impact on employee engagement; and collecting and analysing data to monitor our reputation amongst stakeholder to aid our decision making and enabling us to continue to learn and improve.

**Hybrid Working**

All of our office-based roles are contractually located at Temple Quay House in Bristol. Most of our roles are able to work in a hybrid manner and you will be expected to attend Temple Quay House at least 12 days a year. Depending on your role, you may be required to attend more often than 12 days a year either permanently or temporarily to ensure we deliver our services in the most efficient and effective way for our customers. Please do contact us on

**Person specification**:

- Experience of working within a multi-disciplined team with competing demands and working effectively with stakeholders outside of own immediate area.
- Experience of drafting communication plans, using data and audience insight to identify target audiences and partners, and appropriate channel choices to maximise reach.
- Experience of designing and delivering internal communication content and staff events, delivered to a high quality, evaluated fully.
