Job description
**Directorate: Chief Executive’s**
**Hours: 37 hours a week**
**Contract Type: Permanent**
**Location: Based at the Council House with Hybrid working**
The Council’s legal team has a permanent vacancy for a legal officer who is experienced in Employment law advice and litigation, and (ideally) providing support in other areas of civil work, specifically housing and debt work.
Your main area of work will be advising HR officers on employment law in the workplace, with reference to the council’s own policies and procedures, as well as statute and case law. The work will involve Employment Tribunal casework including taking instructions and drafting responses, preparing document bundles and statements, and advocacy at preliminary hearings and - possibly - final hearings, experience-depending.
You will also provide support to others in the team as required in housing and general civil litigation (generally contract/debt work).
**You**:
- will have or be undertaking a legal qualification law degree or ILEX;
- have good, recent advocacy, drafting and negotiation experience;
- are a good communicator;
- can work on your own initiative and as part of a team;
- give clear, practical advice;
- have recent experience of working within a legal setting;
- are a flexible team member, and;
- can provide evidence of managing your own caseload and meeting deadlines.
