Lead Technical Documentation Author

**Purpose of Role**
- Develop and implement technical documentation solutions.
- Provide support to the managers on technical reviews and compliance.
- To have working knowledge of project management structure, technical authoring and template/stylesheet development.
- Responsibility for developing technical publications delivery solutions for new and existing customers.
- Manage workload of Technical Authors and Review their work to ensure documents are correct and delivered in a timely manner.
- Manage team performance and develop their capabilities.
- Manage documentation requirements for each project and split workload between the documentation team i.e. Lead Technical Documentation Author, Technical Authors and any 3rd party contractors that may or may not be required. (Note: All 3rd party documentation is to be tracked by the documentation team).
- Manage document trackers to ensure the status of each individual document is known, including revision histories and submittal dates and where a document is within the client review system i.e. conformant, conformant with comments, non-conformant or in review.
- Provide KPIs on documentation status and progress reports.
- Work closely with project managers and project engineers to provide customers with a coherent documentation pack through the life of a project. Create documents or complete information on customer templates to enable project milestones to be met to the requirements of customers DIDS (Data Interface Documents) or CDRLs (Customer Data Requirements Lists).
- Review customer quotation proposals, checking for compliance or deviation. Mark up documents and create briefing packs for design and engineering teams.
- Gain an understanding of the product range and of specialist systems provided to be able to complete support documentation.
- To produce ILS (Integrated Logistics Support) documentation and have an understanding of BOM structures, parts breakdowns and spare part recommendations.
- To provide Technical proposals and bid support documentation.
- Inform the Technical and Security Co-ordinator of all document submittals on Export Controlled Projects. The Technical and Security Co-ordinator is responsible for managing the tracking of these documents for export control compliance.

**Key Functional Responsibilities and Accountabilities**

Objectives and key tasks
- Document mark ups and to create briefing reports for technical and commercial departments.
- Create and maintain technical and project documents.
- Manage team to ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Liaise with Product Line Manager and Report on Document Status for each project.
- Document submission via customer or internal portals.
- Create and maintain project trackers and timelines.
- Hit deadlines to maintain project milestone requirements.
- Investigate compliance requirements.
- Ability to track projects from conception to completion.
- Liaising with the customers engineering teams.
- Report to Military and Large Projects Manager where process improvements can be made i.e. will generate greater efficiencies.

Limits of Authority
- Purchasing is to be carried out via liaison with the purchasing department and with permission from the Military and Large Projects Manager.

**Relationships Required**
- Work with all other members of the project team and assist in the delivery of projects on time, on cost, on spec targets.
- Report into the Military and Large Projects Manager or project managers. Provide update reports on project deliverables.
- Build and maintain good working relationship with agents and the company’s suppliers.
- Work closely with project managers and project engineers.
- Manage the workload of the Technical Authors.
- Work when required with customer review teams (meetings) to close comments and documents and ensure revisions are corrected as per agreed actions.
- Be actively involved in project status meetings with customer and project managers to keep updated on current status of projects.

**Skills, Experience and Qualification Requirements**
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience within the marine industry.
- Ability to manage own projects and workload.
- Ability to demonstrate previous experience of developing, implementing and delivering technical publications.
- Drive and enthusiasm to achieve customer quality criteria.
