London, United Kingdom The Restart Project Full time

**What is a Fixing Factory? **Fixing Factories do what they say on the tin We help people fix their broken electricals, and learn new fixing skills, shifting us from our current take-make-waste linear system towards a repair economy fit for the future. They generate public interest in repair. Through a series of stepping stone activities, we take people from never having looked inside an electrical item towards, if they wish, fixing for others.

The Fixing Factories is a partnership between The Restart Project and Possible funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. It launched in April 2022 with two initial sites in Brent (temporary site that is closed) and Camden. After the initial development grant we have secured funding for three years to open and test three additional sites in North London locations, and mature and consolidate our community repair model, with a proportion of our focus being on long-term financial self-sustainability.

Each new Fixing Factory site will grow and nurture existing or new communities of repairers, be strongly linked with local residents and stakeholders, and be driven by engaged teams of volunteers. There will be a range of offers; from free community repair events to paid workshops and retail - as we develop replicable models which will support our long term goal of ‘a Fixing Factory in every high street’.

**About The Restart Project**:The Restart Project helps people transform their relationship with electronics by supporting groups to teach repair at community events, developing fixing spaces and campaigning for a Right to Repair and better waste policy. We are a team of 8, based in the UK with staff in Belgium and Italy. We started as an all-volunteer organisation and volunteers still play a crucial role in our work.

**About Possible**:Possible is a UK based climate charity working towards a zero carbon society, built by and for the people of the UK. Our activities are designed around our Theory of Change.

**The brief**:We are looking to develop a Monitoring and Evaluation framework, track our impact against our agreed objectives and key performance indicators, and gain insights into our data and narratives across our wide range of activities. This will be both at a site level and across the overarching Fixing Factories project.

**What this data will be used for**:

- Ongoing monitoring of impact and financial sustainability of the Fixing Factories
- Ongoing dissemination of impact - to funders, others in the sector, and to the public
- Development of a blueprint which shows how to set up a Fixing Factory, become financially sustainable and monitor KPIs
- Developing, iterating and enriching our work with volunteers and stakeholders
- Telling the story of Fixing Factories and community repair

**Outputs of this work**:

- Development and delivery of our M&E framework and analysis plan
- Development, ongoing review and refinement of clear processes for collecting data in line with our existing grant and strategic objectives
- In depth analysis of our KPI trends every 2 months, and attendance at quarterly strategy meetings to interpret and discuss progress (bimonthly for the first 6 months). Attendance can be virtual.
- Insights into whether we’re meeting our financial and impact goals and where we should be focusing more efforts to reach them
- The creation of methods and materials for collecting data which are compliant with legal requirements and/or GDPR e.g. customer surveys and ongoing review of data collection methods
- Some data collection on site and upskilling team members and volunteers on correct data collection processes
- Qualitative and quantitative data capture methods
- Development of a data dashboard which monitors trends and provides analytics

**Examples of what we’d like to monitor**:

- _Financial sustainability_: income and ROI from income generation strands
- _Engagement_: numbers, demographics and satisfaction of volunteers and visitors to fixing factory sites
- _Impact_: ongoing behaviour change after engagement, impact of Fixing Factories on local attitudes, social value indicators and behaviour around repair. Number of repairs, success rates, CO2 emissions avoided

**Requirements**:

- Proven experience of using monitoring and evaluation insights to help shape project strategy and maximise impact
- Proven experience of developing a range of data collection methods and materials
- Ability to develop data collection methods that are suitable for a low-resource, community context
- Ability to translate complex data into simple headlines, analytics, metrics and insights for a non-expert audience, including developing a data dashboard
- Ability to work collaboratively and support team members in developing their data collection expertise
- Ability to provide clear and timely reporting data in line with a pre-agreed schedule
- Able to travel to London periodically

**Timeframe**:

- Approximately 3 years, until mid-2027 - ongoing analy
