We have a new and excellent opportunity for a Residential Support Worker to work in a residential service located in North West London. The service caters for adults who have mental health needs and diagnosis. Many of the service user have high dependency needsand ongoing mental health challenges. Some of them are in recovery from serious mental health episodes and require a supportive therapeutic environment. The service is committed to empowering service users to achieve and maximise their independence and leadfulfilling lives whilst providing them with access to the care and support they need. Service Users agreements are obtained in any treatment plans and they are involved in the running of the home. The service offers a range of activities including art therapyand helps service users develop cooking skills, develop their fitness and spending time in the garden growing vegetables.
As Residential Support Worker your role is to ensure the safety, support and care of the service users whilst maximising their choice, dignity and independence.
Service Users well-being and protection are of upmost importance and a commitment to maintaining the requirements of the CQC, the GSCC Code of Conduct, the HCPC Code of Practice for Social Care and the Health and Safety at Work Act are essential. The idealResidential Support Worker needs experience and a good understanding of working with vulnerable adults who have a range of challenging mental health conditions. The service operates 24 hours and the role involves a variety of shift patterns which the postholder is required to work flexibly around. These involve sleeping shifts and waking nights. The shifts vary from 8 to 10 hours.
Key duties of the Residential Support Worker include:
Ensuring equal opportunities for the service users and enabling them to enjoy a friendly and stimulating home life
Acting as a key worker and ensuring the delivery of person-centred care, contributing to the support plans and contingency plans in consultation with them and the relevant stakeholders
To support service users in their self-care and helping them maintain their rooms and communal areas to an acceptable standard
To complete all administrative tasks associated with this role
To complete assessments. Monitor support plans and attend reviews
To be alert and attentive to residents throughout their shifts and respond to their emergency and crisis needs. This involves providing emotional support
To work empathically and in an organised way supporting your colleagues and ensuring a reflective and accurate handover
As a Residential Support Worker, you will need a warm, kind and compassionate nature with strong sensitivity and initiative. You will also need:
Health and Social Care NVQ Level 2 minimum, ideally level 3
Experience in engaging clients with mental health challenges in a similar environment
Experience of administering medication, key working, formulation of support plans and carrying out risk assessments and personal care in a similar role, paid or voluntary
Experience of working with people with challenging or anti-social behaviour and de-escalation techniques
Experience of working in a multi-cultural diverse environment
Experience in leading a shift and being professional in all that is undertaken to achieve best practice
To be aware and demonstrate willingness to learn and adhere to the Mental Health Act, Safeguarding Adults, Equal Opportunities Awareness, Mental Capacity Act, DoLs, Health and Safety, Fire awareness protocol and the role of CQC in care homes
To ensure effective, open, and positive communication within the home, including to residents, their relatives, staff and volunteers, external professionals, and all visitors to the home, using the 'Key Working' system, all of which are required to be recordedand documented
The role is for 40 hours per week with a salary of £11.65p/h depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to your salary you will receive a generous holiday allowance and range of benefits. The service is run by a reputable social care provider.
