**Job Title: Public Affairs Officer (International)**
**Job Location: UK Flexible Location (Working from Home and/or Office) UKO once per week and regular travel to Westminster**
**Salary: £25,357 to £28,632 per annum, pro rata (Inner London Weighting offered where applicable) based on 35 hours per week**:
**Contract Type: 12 months fixed term contract (Maternity Leave)**
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Public Affairs Officer to work within our policy, research and advocacy department, focused on the effective advocacy of our international priorities in Westminster and Whitehall.
As our Public Affairs Officer, you will directly advise the Public Affairs team to provide effective outreach to Westminster (MPs and Peers) and other political audiences to help influence policy and practice change across our international and humanitarian portfolio in order to improve the lives of those who are vulnerable and in crisis.
**A day in the life of a Public Affairs Officer (International) will involve**:
- Progress a public affairs strategy for British Red Cross international humanitarian policy priorities.
- Coordinate and respond to parliamentary business on international policy issues, by monitoring parliamentary business, preparing and distributing tailored briefings for key stakeholders, suggesting parliamentary activity for key stakeholders, engaging in effective follow-up activities on related business.
- Deliver a proactive engagement strategy, building strong, new and reciprocal relationships with parliamentary stakeholders, building a strong base of support for positive engagement on international policy issues.
- Work closely with colleagues in the International directorate and Humanitarian Policy, ensuring that the public affairs engagement continues to support the team’s policy objectives. Work with the team to identify research and evidence gaps where appropriate.
- Support the wider Public Affairs team deliver the public affairs strategies aligned to our domestic areas of focus, including championing a fair and compassionate refugee and asylum system, tackling health inequalities and improving the transition between home and hospital and working towards a human centre emergency response.
- Coordinate and deliver high impact public affairs events, aligned to the overarching strategy.
- Work closely with other teams in communications and engagement, especially the strategic communications and media team, contributing to the wider organisation strategy on international policy issues.
- Work closely with colleagues in the wider sector, ensuring BRC’s strategy is aligned, complementary and coordinated with that of key sector stakeholders to ensuring we maximise our collective impact.
**To be a successful Public Affairs Officer (International), you’ll need**:
- Experience of working in advocacy or public affairs teams
- Experience of working with politicians either directly or indirectly
- The ability to translate sometimes complex policy ideas into a persuasive format for a public or political audience
- The ability to work diplomatically and professionally when managing our relationships with officials, elected representatives and other organisations
- Good technical knowledge of the workings of the UK Parliament and Government.
Knowledge, experience and/or demonstrable interest in public affairs and public policy development (e.g. politics, government affairs and/or parliamentary engagement) relevant to the international work of the British Red Cross
