Our client, the UK’s leading independent Engineering and Services business founded in 1921, with a turnover of £500m and 3000 employees, are now looking for a Technical Manager with a Mechanical bias to join the team based in Blyth. The project is a major manufacturing facility on the Northumberland Coast to produce world-class, sustainable lithium-ion batteries, primarily for the automotive industry and is the first of its kind in the UK. The factory, or Gigaplant, will eventuallybe the fourth largest structure in Europe, and will play a key part in the UK and global strategy to reduce carbon emissions as the world embarks on ambitious plans towards net zero. Our client is proud to be the MEP partner for this facility and expect theMEP value of the project to be >£400m and anticipate that they will be delivering this programme for the next 5-6 years. The main purpose of the role is to lead, own and manage the technical risk and opportunities within the business, from inception through to project completion and client handover, focusing on design optimisation, opportunity identification and mitigationof technical risk. Ensure technical compliance with works information, scope, project specification and legislation, undertaking technical management of both internal and external designs. **Key Responsibilities** - Demonstrate appropriate Health and Safety leadership to ensure that the safety first and foremost message is visible and alive throughout all activities relating to the project on which you are working. - Lead the technical engineering management on internally and externally designed projects to successfully achieve company, team and individual objectives relating to; the implementation of best value design, management of opportunities and risk mitigation.Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development from a technical solution perspective. - Assist the Regional Design & Engineering Manager in the production of technical management fees for internally and externally designed projects. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of technical management costs, values and programme forecasts; seeking opportunitiesto suggest actions which mitigate risk and maximise profitability. - Prepare monthly project reports for Senior Stakeholders highlighting progress, risks, opportunities, and resource issues. Advise on commercial progress against plan, any variances from plan and the corrective actions being taken. On external designs, takeownership of the completion of the responsibilities matrix of the Engagement of Consultant Pack, ensuring that scope gaps are mitigated. - Conduct regular independent design/technical reviews of both internal and external designs in accordance with the technical review process, ensuring that both internal and external designs are technically correct and represent best value and comply withall legal and contracted requirements. - Build and maintain mutually beneficial customer, key supplier and internal relationships. Promote the design team and actively seek out new opportunities. Communicate proactively with project stakeholders to improve our collaboration with operational teams. - Support the Principal Technical Manager in the identification, delivery and attendance of CPDs, ensuring that the development of the design/technical team’s competence is maintained. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the businessand support business development, actively promoting our technical capability. **Requirements**: - Extensive experience in MEP design / technical management. - Good understanding of design and build and traditional construction contracts. - Significant experience of commercial management on design projects - I. Eng, MCIBSE, MIET, B.
