The Tax Advisory Services (TAS) sits within Risk, Control, Financial Accounting (RCFA) Directorate and is part of HMRC Chief Financial Officer’s portfolio. The role is a strategic specialist role delivering direct tax services for HMRC.

The role will ensure HMRC’s own statutory Employer Duties (ED) and off-payroll (IR35) obligations are met, additionally providing a detailed advisory and assurance function across both ED policy and process.

**Job description**:
**About TAS**:
Across HMRC TAS provide tax advice and assurance covering the whole of HMRC. This includes:

- Ensure tax returns for HMRC, and the VOA are completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Sampling transactional data on a risk-based approach to provide additional tax assurance.
- Support the department’s financial controls with Off-Payroll engagements (IR35)
- Develop and maintain the appropriate risk controls across all tax regimes.
- Ensure the department promptly responds to changes in tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Provide timely and professional tax advice to the wider department.
- Provide bespoke tax training to key business areas and stakeholders.
- Manage and respond to audit demands and recommendations.

**Person specification**:
This is a pivotal tax technical leadership role in HMRC’s internal tax team (TAS). We are seeking an exceptional tax professional to lead on ED technical work.

**Essential Criteria**

Proven compliance and advisory experience in UK Employer Duties (PAYE & NIC).
- Specifically with mid-sized or large businesses and/or international corporate groups. Skilled in UK employer duties.
- Experience interacting with HMRC on complex ED enquiries

**Qualifications**:

- Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualified (ideally in ED)
OR
- Fully trained on ED Route Way with HMRC’s Tax Specialist Programme (TSP)
