**Life Sciences Innovation Specialist: Emerging Technologies, Discovery Science & Advanced Therapies**
Role Purpose
Specialists are responsible for driving and delivering inward investment in life sciences, enabling exports and export promotion, and supporting engagement with the sector on trade policy, market access, and trading systems.
**Key Accountabilities**:
Design or lead a variety of projects or offers
Pitch UK investible propositions and export opportunities to the private sector and to a diversity of overseas stakeholders in 121, group or event-based settings
Support or lead high impact 'deals’ and work to annual key metrics of success with clear in-year milestones/progress
Develop relationships and expanded networks to help deliver results
Consult on a wider pipeline of opportunities, as required, using sectoral and technical knowledge and skills and
Undertake capability development and upskilling of the DIT network.
**Personal Attributes & Skills**:
Specialists are business facing and will engage with inward investors and exporting companies, UK and international sector organisations, and with DIT’s UK and overseas delivery network. Personal and technical credibility is required to engage across thisdiverse range of stakeholders, and commercial acumen.
**Essential and Preferred Experience**:
At least 10 years of experience in the life sciences and/or healthcare sector, or another aligned technical or scientific sector with transferrable skills
Previous experience in an innovation or R&D role in either the private sector, or in a public or third sector organisation
Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle in life sciences, especially in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology
Awareness of the main trends and opportunities in discovery science, advanced therapies/complex medicines, and other emerging technology areas in life sciences
Understanding of the drivers for businesses to internationalise
Great communication and influence skills, able to confidently engage with CEOs, CSOs, and other decision makers at both large and small companies
Demonstrated subsector relationships or network in the UK in one or more of discovery science, advanced therapies/complex medicines, engineering biology, or TechBio (eg convergence of technology and biology such as AI-based drug discovery)
Team working experience with proven results
Occasional travel may be required within the UK or overseas, according to business case
**Preferred**:
Technical and/or academic training in a bioscience, health science, data science, or engineering field
Experience working both in the UK and at least one other international market
Demonstrated international networks in the relevant subsectors
