**Job Purpose**
To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by contributing to teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with teaching of Molecular Genetics and related topics within biomolecular sciences, and to undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. To deliver a range of teaching, course support and assessment activities for Life Sciences undergraduate degree programmes in the College of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, in particular the molecular genetics BSc programme.
2. To actively develop appropriate teaching materials to ensure content and methods of delivery meet learning objectives for students with a wide range of backgrounds and abilities.
3. To participate fully in the development of assessment processes, using a variety of methods and techniques, and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
4. To collaborate with colleagues on assessment and examination processes to ensure clear and robust procedures are in place.
5. To supervise and facilitate the running of practical classes in molecular genetics, biomolecular sciences and related areas, advising on skills, methods and techniques to assist the transfer of knowledge.
6. To support the ongoing development and design of the curriculum for degree programmes in molecular genetics, biomolecular sciences and related areas, in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approaches to student learning.

To undertake administrative duties and to carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment and examination requirements and criteria, and timely and constructive feedback on assessment to students to support their learning.
10. To be an Advisor of Studies and support the pastoral care for students and provide guidance on the choice of courses and degree programmes.

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent professional and/or teaching experience.

**Desirable**
B1 Knowledge and specialist understanding in human genetics
B2 Knowledge and specialist understanding in statistics, including use of R.
B3 Knowledge and specialist understanding in bioinformatics. B4 Knowledge of education-related quality assurance practices.

**Skills**

**Essential**
C1 Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact constructively with students, academic colleagues, technical staff and administrative staff in the College and the University.
C2 Excellent data analysis skills.
C4 Ability to supervise, guide and assess student learning.
C5 Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
C6 A sympathetic and compassionate approach in dealing with student problems, both academic and personal.

**Desirable**
D1 Skills for the development of blended learning teaching resources and delivery of blended learning.
D2 Ability to draft, prepare and edit course documents and to produce laboratory documents for students.
D3 Excellent organisational and administrative skills with a commitment to assist with the strategic development of teaching and assessment processes.
D4 Information processing skills to facilitate the collection and analysis of large volumes of data from student assessment.
D5 Skills for the development of innovative resources and/or approaches to teaching and learning using a range of methods such as virtual learning environments.

**Experience**

**Essential**
E1 A track record of published research and/or development and delivery of teaching.
E3 Proven ability to design, review and enhance learning, teaching and assessment and/or research programmes.
E4 Experience of developing and demonstrating teaching and/or research methods and devising models, approaches, techniques, critiques and methods.
E5 Ability to communicate complex or conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding.
E6 Demonstrable teaching experience in a relevant area of molecular genetics. E7 Research experience in an area relevant to molecular genetics.

**Desirable**
F1 Demonstrable postdoctoral research experience.
F2 Experience of the preparation of research data for publication in the scientific literature.
F4 Proven ability to develop and devise teaching techniques and methods.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 7, £37,474 - £42,155 per annum.
This post is full time and has funding for up to 2 years.
