**Job Purpose**
To contribute to/make a leading contribution to the project: “Understanding and targeting cell death oncogenicity”. This team project will investigate molecular mechanisms, occurrence, and importance of sub-lethal stress in cancer development and treatment. It will entail a variety of approaches encompassing super-resolution live-cell imaging, CRISPR-based screening and new in vivo models of cancer to report sub-lethal stress. This project fits into wider research goals of the Tait group to improve cancer therapy whilst minimising unwanted toxicity.
Specifically, the postholder will conduct, manage and publish research in the area of cancer, inflammation and cell death as well as assist in managing and directing this complex and exciting project.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
Perform the following activities in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI):

1. Take a leading role in the planning and conduct of assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and project/group/Institute/ College research strategy.
2. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
3. Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation and that of the Institute of Cancer Sciences including establishing and sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals and conferences, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
5. Presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
6. Take a leading role in the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.
7. Take a leading role in developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across the research Institute/College/University and wider community (eg academic and Industrial Partners).
8. Take a leading role in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and Institute research group activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and culture of the Institute/College.
9. Take the lead in the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
10. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and Institute, including budgets/expenditure.
11. Make a leading contribution to outreach and recruitment activities of the University of Glasgow.
12. Make a leading contribution to teaching activities (e.g. demonstrating etc) and associated administration as assigned by the Director of Institute and in consultation with the PI.
13. Be responsible for safety management related to the organisation and running of laboratory and/or experimental techniques, equipment and processes as appropriate.
14. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
15. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
16. Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by the Director of Institute and/or PI.
These key tasks are not intended to be exhaustive but simply highlight a number of major tasks which the staff member may be reasonably expected to perform.

**Knowledge / Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 10 (Honours Degree) May be working towards post-graduate qualification such as Masters (SCQF level 11) or PhD (SCQF level 12) in Immunology, Molecular Genetics, Stem Cell Biology, Cellular or Developmental Biology and experience of personal development in similar role
A2. Extensive and up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to research project.
A3. Understanding of relevant health and safety policies and procedures relative to the role.

**For appointment at grade 7**:

A4. PhD or equivalent in Immunology, Molecular Genetics, Cellular or Developmental Biology.

**Desirable**
B1. Knowledge of tumor immunology and/or use of in vivo mouse models B3. Understanding of Intellectual Property protection.
