Genetics Sample Reception Supervisor - Laboratory Genetics Join to apply for the Genetics Sample Reception Supervisor - Laboratory Genetics role at NHS Scotland NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. The shift pattern for this post is Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00. An opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Healthcare Science Associate Practitioner to join Laboratory Genetics, which forms part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The laboratory provides a high‑quality cytogenetic and molecular diagnostics service to the West of Scotland (population >2.7 million) and to the whole of Scotland through the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine. The laboratory is based in the state‑of‑the‑art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. You will join our team of >110 scientific and technical staff and work as part of a team to provide technical support to the scientific staff of the Laboratory Genetics department. Your key responsibilities will include: Supervision and motivation of our team of Healthcare Science Assistants (higher level) who work in specimen reception to ensure the provision of a high‑quality, timely, and cost‑efficient pre‑analytical service. Organisation of staff and workload to maintain efficient workflow through the department, prioritisation of urgent requests, and balancing competing demands of routine and specialist areas. Use of technical knowledge and skills to advise and support staff and to ensure effective operation of the sample reception area which processes >35,000 samples per year. You should have an HNC, SVQ 3, SCQF Level 7 in an appropriate scientific subject or equivalent with additional theoretical or applied training equivalent to diploma level. You should also have previous supervisory experience, preferably in a diagnostic laboratory.
