Job description
Harris Hill has an exciting opportunity for a Public Affairs Officer/ Consultant, to join Action Bladder Cancer UK, on an interim or freelance basis.
This role is 1.5 days per week, for 12 months and would suit a freelancer or someone looking for part time employment. Freelancer wanting OUTSIDE IR35 is on the cards, so please do discuss your terms with us.
Action Bladder Cancer UK is looking to raise the profile of Bladder Cancer, one of the UK's most common cancers. However, Bladder cancer doesn't have the profile like others, so symptoms get missed or overlooked, making diagnosis often too late.
As the Public Affairs person, you will develop and execute effective public affairs strategies to influence policy decisions, legislative processes, and public perceptions with a focus on policy proposals, government engagement, and advocacy efforts. This is a key role where you could have a genuine impact on the awareness of, attitudes to, and treatment of bladder cancer in the UK and be part of real change.
To be considered, you will need:
Demonstrable experience and achievements in public affairs, government relations, policy analysis or related roles with a charity or as a consultant;
Possess strong and current experience of health policy issues - knowledge of cancer policy issues would be highly advantageous;
Able to communicate persuasively to a range of audiences and have excellent communication and engagement skills ;
Have a strong understanding of Westminster and the UK political and health sector landscape, with a good understanding of legislative and health regulatory process;
Have good experience of building effective relationships and working partnerships with a range of stakeholders - including government departments, MPs, ministers, other voluntary sector organisations and networks and others.
