**Appointment of a Member to the Board of the Scottish Social Services Council**

Scottish Ministers are looking to make an appointment of a Member to the Board of the Scottish Social Services Council.**Information about the SSSC**
- The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) was established in October 2001 as a new non‑departmental public body set up under the
- **Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001**. Its main responsibility is to regulate the social service workforce in Scotland, including their education and training. The aims and objectives of the SSSC are to protect those who use services; raise standards of practice; strengthen and support the professionalism of the workforce, contribute to securing a sustainable future for social care through development of new roles, new qualifications and ways of working. In order to deliver its overall aims, the Council has responsibility for five key areas:
- register and regulate key groups of social service workers
- publish Codes of Practice for all social service workers and their employers
- regulate the training and education of the workforce
- promote education and training
- undertake the functions of the Sector Skills Council for social care; Skills for Care and Development, this includes workforce planning and development.
- Whilst SSSC operates at a national level, it works closely with the other social care councils of Wales and Northern Ireland and the Health and Care Professions Council, the regulator of social workers in England. It is also a member of the UK Alliance which forms the Sector Skills Council for social care - Skills for Care and Development.The Office of the Chief Social Work Adviser in the Scottish Government oversees and monitors the work of the SSSC.The SSSC is based in Dundee where it is co-located with the Care Inspectorate.The SSSC comprises of a Council of 10 members, including the Convener, who come from a variety of backgrounds and is required to include SSSC registrants and users of care services.- Scottish Ministers wish to fill 1 member position that will soon become available.-

Remuneration of £154.14 per day is payable (7 hour day). The Council is liable to pay allowances at rates set centrally for any travel and subsistence costs necessarily incurred on Council business.
