Garden Cottage Nursery School is an ‘Outstanding’ (Ofsted) Child Care Setting, nestled in the beautiful South Downs, we are open for children aged 0-5 years old all year round or term timely. We are located within the beautiful grounds of Highden Farm Washington next to Windlesham House School. We prepare our children to go on to may local schools in West Sussex, and have very good relationships with them all.

We are lucky enough to have a wealth of facilities and resources available to us including a Forest School, a Walled Garden, a Greenhouse and a Farm with our own donkeys. The children explore and develop their senses and skills in a huge range of environments and often have the chance to enjoy the fruits of their labours at snack time.

An exciting opportunity has come up to join Garden Cottage Nursery School as an Apprentice Nursery Assistant in the beautiful South Downs. If you are personable, enthusiastic and energetic with a passion to work with children, this may be the perfect opportunity for you

The Apprentice Nursery Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the provision of a caring, secure environment for children and for organising and delivering a range of activities and play work that meet their needs. The apprentice must be willing to learn and take some responsibilities’;
- Supervising children play time
- Engaging children in learning and pay activities
- Keeping and updating records
- Working with team members
- Maintaining a high standard or operation
- Attending staff meetings

As an Apprentice you will be included on a Level 2 or 3 Early Years Apprenticeship. This will involve a trainer from Babcock Training coming to visit you on a regular basis in the workplace.

Early Years Apprenticeship Standard
Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentices chosen career route, each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English. Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role. Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.
