We are looking for an experienced, dynamic midwife to co-ordinate and lead shifts on our Delivery suite and Birth centre, working collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team and management to provide a high-standard of safe, women-centred care. This includes secondment opportunities within specialist teams, shadowing opportunities with members of the senior team, leadership programmes and Chief Nurse fellowship programmes. There is also the chance to be part of the talent management process. The post holder has responsibility for the management and co-ordination of a midwifery team / clinical and specialist area. This includes the deployment, supervision and teaching of junior midwives and Doctors and / or students. The overall objective of the post holder is to work as a clinical and managerial leader taking responsibility for the co-ordination of a team of midwives in a clinical area within the hospital, women with both low and high risk providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. This includes midwifery led care services. Our Trust has staff accommodation in North London, and is situated within easy reach of London rail terminals, Luton and Stanstead airports, and central London. We are in Zone 4, making travel to work on public transport less expensive than going into central London, as well as offering on-site parking. We currently look after 4700 births per year and book over 5000 women for antenatal care. Our improvements over the last 18 months have seen us receiving praise from NHS Improvement regarding our committed approach to supportive management. A CCG Insight visit noted the improvements in morale and culture, with staff reporting good support and a culture of learning rather than blame. Our students are rating us highly in their university feedback, with our Poppy Team receiving "Practice Excellence Award 2020" from City University. Our Bereavement Service received the RCM award for Bereavement care in 2018. As of June 2021 we received the Capital Midwife Preceptorship Mark. Our maternity service now receives 5 star reviews on NHS choices This is a service on the up, and we recognise that there is great competition in London to get the best midwives into their workforce, we believe that at North Middlesex you can truly flourish. To maintain good rapport with women users and visitors within the service. To exercise leadership and co-ordinate women centred care and activities within her / his area of responsibility, employing a pro-active and dynamic approach to management. To supervise junior member of staff and continually assess the care given to ensure that it is appropriate, and delegate appropriately to them taking into consideration their level of experience / developmental needs. Development of operational policy for team / clinical area within the hospital environment. To ensure that optimal use is made of available resources to provide appropriate cover over 24 hour period. To review the staffing levels in the light of unexpected absences, to adjust the off duty rota accordingly to meet service needs in order to provide safe and effective quality care. When it appears that safe care cannot be maintained, to inform the matron of the day, manager on call (out of hours) and Matron. To implement agreed changes according to the service needs. To set, implement and monitor the maintenance of standards and quality care, and evaluating standards of care. To act up for the Matron as required. To undertake annual reviews and monitor the professional development plan of allocated band 6 midwives and other junior staff and to ensure they are in turn developed to undertake similar assessment of junior staff. To participate in the selection of new staff and arrange and develop orientation programmes for new member of staff, in order to familiarise them with the organisational and practice demands of the unit. To monitor sickness and absence of staff members, ensuring completion of appropriate records in line with the Trust’s Management Absence Policy. To ensure that all equipment is checked daily and maintained according to manufacturer’s specification. To ensure all staff / team members are competent in accessing electronic records.
