**The Role**

We are looking for someone who is a good team player with some experience supervising tasks and excellent interpersonal skills as this work involves liaison with different stakeholders within and outside the University. A positive ‘can do’ attitude and a flexible and helpful approach is essential.

We operate a blended working approach with at least half of your time spent on campus in our shared office space.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Provide line-management to the Schools’ Research Support Officers, supporting their work to ensure required policies are implemented and due process followed and to ensure that research activity is effectively supported.
- Work with the School Manager to provide task management to the finance assistant in supporting their work with planning, advice and accounts monitoring and reporting.
- Work with the Research Manager and School Manager to ensure full provision of PS support is in place to cover the portfolio of research and finance throughout the year.
- Arrange, co-ordinate and review relevant training needs of the Research Support Officers.
- Provide advice and guidance to academic colleagues for costing and planning complex research proposals, conferences, networks, fieldwork and other activities, in line with University and funder rules, ensuring that correct procedures are followed and maximum recovery of costs is achieved.
- Provide project financial management for school budgets, internal awards and complex research accounts including budget management, regular reporting and advising the budget holders on forecasted over/under spending.
- Oversee/undertake transactions such as travel bookings, purchasing, sales, expenses checks and payments as required, ensuring accurate records are maintained for audit purposes in compliance with relevant legislation
- Devise and maintain efficient administrative systems to ensure effective record keeping, budgetary management and the smooth running of projects.
- Be responsible for the administration of the School’s External and Internal Quality Assurance processes under the direction of the Director of Research and School Research Manager.
- Be responsible for ensuring that the school web presence is kept up to date with information about research projects, seminars, conferences and other activities, and to act as a central point for the coordination of school, faculty and University research news items.
- Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required from time to time including deputising for other members of the School research and finance team during busy periods and absences

**The Person (Essential)**

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- Substantial experience in a relevant administrative role,
- Experience of establishing, reviewing, and monitoring administrative processes and using corporate systems in office environments,
- Understanding of the broad principles of the administrative research functions within a Higher Education setting.
- Experience of/ or demonstrable understanding of processing financial transactions in accordance with policy.
- Understanding of University Research support and experience of supporting the management or costing of research projects.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to look ahead and plan for change, anticipate problems and troubleshoot where necessary, with effective problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work across a range of tasks in a complex, diverse department and manage activities accordingly.

**Qualification**
- A- levels (or equivalent) plus work experience in a relevant role or broad work experience acquired through a combination of vocational training and considerable on-the
