**Role Summary**
AXIS International Division has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, ambitious and adaptable individual to assume responsibility for Technical Policy Wordings construction, analysis and support. You will be an integral part of our underwriting business providing support across all lines - Property, Marine & Energy, Professional Lines & Casualty, Credit, Political Risks, Renewable Energy & Aviation. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your technical drafting skills and advisory services to the underwriters, their clients and brokers in order to provide a service differentiator. The International Division of AXIS writes $2bn of business across both Lloyd’s and Company market platforms. The role would be London based and will report to the Head of Underwriting Governance - International Division.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Analysing - reviewing existing and new open market and coverholder wordings, including analysis and explanation of individual clauses right through to review and construction of complete policy wordings, always with a focus on delivering a timely and commercial solution to any issue raised
- Creating & Innovating - working closely with key stakeholders internally and externally to refine or expand existing wordings and clauses. Help maintain & develop our leadership capabilities in chosen lines, supporting the strategic growth plans of the division
- Teamwork - collaborating with colleagues across the Underwriting team and beyond (including Claims, Ceded Re and Compliance) in order to deliver on team goals, service delivery requirements and internal projects
- Training and Developing - sharing best practice solutions across the wider business (including liaison with our colleagues in the US and other offices), delivering presentations to underwriting teams, engaging with external resources in the legal community and the IUA/LMA to ensure AXIS wordings are up to date, providing pre-bind and post-bind technical wording advice
- Mentoring - sharing knowledge with the younger members of the Underwriting teams via bespoke team meetings, regular updates or provision of training sessions on key wordings developments
- Supporting underwriters in achieving underwriting discipline both through coverage analysis and offering robust and clear wording solutions and highlighting potential coverage exposure to emerging risks
- Support Peer Review / referral and assist with the development of a consistent underwriting process across the Division, including management of up-to-date wordings minimum standards
- Networking - attending market forums and liaising with peers to develop new and better wordings for our underwriters and customers.

**Skills & Characteristics**:

- Ability to interpret and analyse insurance clauses and wording requests and to satisfy these by drafting clauses and wordings solutions in a clear, precise and robust manner
- Confidence to deliver your own wording solutions to underwriters, brokers and peers both in writing and face to face
- Comprehensive understanding of what the business, legal and compliance needs are for individual classes
- In-depth understanding of standard clauses used in the market and class-specific wording structures
- Ability to plan and self-manage workloads and work under pressure whilst adhering to deadlines and competing priorities
- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently with little or no supervision and to exercise independent judgement
- Demonstrable experience and proven record of working on bespoke and manuscript wordings
- Willingness and confidence to meet clients face to face to discuss aspects of the policy wording, and negotiating with senior broker wordings specialists
- Evaluating new clauses that arise within the market.

**Desired Qualifications and Experience**:

- Experience in Contract Wordings, as broad experience as possible with First Party being a prerequisite
- ACII qualified or working towards qualification
- Law Degree / Legally qualified.
