**The Role**

The Course Leader is responsible for the overall management and success of the summer school programme. This includes overseeing student welfare, staff coordination, and programme delivery, ensuring smooth daily operations, and maintaining effective communication with both the host site, SBC Head Office and wider staff team. The Course Leader ensures the highest standards of supervision, student wellbeing, and safety, while fostering a positive team environment. They also oversee comprehensive record keeping and reporting, compliance with all policy and procedure and provide students with a safe and enriching experience.

**_Remuneration_**:Paid weekly, one week in arrears. The weekly rate received for Course Leader is £1250 PLUS any accrued holiday to be paid at the end of contract)* Food and accommodation are included for all residential SBC staff.

**Main Duties**:
Leadership
- Oversee all aspects of the summer school, ensuring highest standards of student and staff welfare, smooth operations, and comprehensive record-keeping.
- Lead responsibility for site spending, ensuring adherence to budgets, company guidelines, and fiscal responsibility.
- Maintain a strong reputation for SBC and the host venue through positive relationships with staff, parents, and stakeholders.
- Be an approachable presence on site, fostering open communication and a positive environment.
- Maintain regular communication with SBC Senior Managers and Head Office.

***Programme & Daily Routine**
- **Ensure continuous student supervision, efficient daily operations, and proper staff coverage for all sessions, welfare and pastoral duties, breaks, and mealtimes.
- Oversee the delivery of an engaging and high quality academic and social programme.
- Lead key student assemblies, welcome talks, briefings and celebration events.
- Ensure smooth student arrivals and departures days, liaising with Transfer Managers and managing logistics while keeping communication lines open with SBC Head Office.
- Oversee stock management, ensuring compliance with budget and guidelines.

**Academic Programme Delivery**
- **Take overall responsibility for implementing and monitoring the performance of the Academic Programme.
- Organise the students into classes and inform both students and Tutors of their classes.
- Keep clear and accurate records of class attendance, work covered and student progress.
- Organise all aspects of the weekly academic 'Time to Shine' ceremony following the procedural notes and guidance given by the SBC Head Office Academic Management Team.
- Coordinate the preparation and delivery of the academic event programme, serving as the main point of contact for Guest Speakers and Workshop Hosts
- Ensure reports and leavers’ certificates are produced on time.
- Be the point of contact for SBC Head Office regarding the Academic Programme.
- Provide feedback on the SBC syllabus and academic processes at the end of the summer.

**Team Management**
- **Lead the college academic team, holding daily meetings and establishing a positive and supportive environment for the teaching team.
- Support, manage, and guide Tutors, carrying out lesson observations, giving observation feedback, and running CPD workshops/idea sessions.
- Teach when necessary to provide cover for absent Tutors.
- Be responsible for pre-arrival academic setup and effectively induct Tutors at the beginning of the summer school.
- Conduct appraisals, address performance issues and provide ongoing support with input from the Course Leader and Head Office.

**Student Welfare**
- **Prioritise the welfare and wellbeing of students and staff, managing incidents and behavioural issues with SBC Head Office.
- Address pastoral matters professionally and ensure safeguarding measures, taking Level 2 Safeguarding Course to serve as the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) if required.
