Principal Technical Operator, Leeds

Job Introduction
BBC Yorkshire is a leading broadcaster based in Leeds. We broadcast to some of Britain’s biggest and most diverse cities; Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford and also report from some of its most beautiful countryside. We pride ourselves in making creative and engaging television, radio and online material.

We are looking for a creative and motivated individual to join our innovative and enthusiastic Operations team. Because of our close links with the Northern Network Bureaux and the News Channel we have almost a 24/7 operation, so flexible working is expected. You will work primarily to our flagship evening news programme Look North, but there will also be opportunities to work on network news programming, Outside Broadcasts, our weekly Political programme, Politics North and with our digital and social media team.

This role involves a large degree of flexibility and resilience which will come as second nature to you. As you will be working closely with the news production team, you will be able to communicate clearly and assertively and respect demands of working in a fast-moving environment. An ability to work in live, pre-recorded and often pressurised situations and a good understanding of health and safety guidelines is essential.

Main Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the provision of a range of technical services to support our programme-makers and to contribute to the day-to-day activities and special projects of the resources team and to ensure that our customers receive a high quality service.

You will be an experienced Senior Technical Operator with a consistently high quality shooting and editing skills. You will be comfortable operating a wide range of cameras and editing on location using Final Cut Pro. Experience as a satellite truck engineer is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

You should be highly motivated and enthusiastic about news. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

An interest in new technologies and new ways of working will be an advantage.
