**Job description**:
**The Challenge**

Do you want to join the Governments Security team of the year, and be part of our Gold Standard security service?

Our uniformed Kennel Supervisors are a visual reassurance to our clients, the public and the authorities. Kennel Supervisors are responsible for protecting the security and safety of the site and the welfare of the animals. You will ensure that assigned tasks are completed in a professional and timely manner meeting relevant MOD / MGS and Establishments policies and processes. Our resilient Dog Handlers perform a multitude of tasks and duties, including patrolling and nurturing /training the Military Working Dog (MWD).

The MGS support our Kennel Supervisors within their role, by ensuring that they are supplied with suitable equipment to conduct the role as well as being inducted on each site accordingly. In the MGS, we hold core values of Honesty, Integrity, professionalism and efficiency. We use these values to drive continuous improvement.

We also passionate about staff development. As a Kennel Supervisor, you will be enrolled onto a training course held at Defence Animal Training Regiment (DATR) enabling you to upskill your knowledge and you will also need to attend a Practical Training Assistant (PTA) course, MGS Foundation Course, Patrol Dog Handlers Course and Kennel Managers Course.

MGS Kennel Supervisors have excellent customer service skills who are willing to go above and beyond to support the client and visitors We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, who is physically fit as alongside your daily activities you may be required to patrol outdoors, in all weather conditions on potentially uneven terrain, covering up to 6 miles a day Kennel Supervisors need to be able to lift/restrain a dog weighing up to 40kg. It is also important that you are calm under pressure and have a flexible approach to suit the business needs.

The Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) is a professionally qualified body of Civil Servants who provide unarmed guarding services at over 100 MOD sites across Great Britain. The MGS has guarded the Defence Estate for over 25 years including high profile locations such as MOD Main Building in London and Her Majesty’s Naval Bases at Portsmouth, Devonport and the Clyde. The MGS plays a vital role supporting the Defence Mission and works closely with its security partners

The MGS is part of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and employs over 2,500 operational and support staff. The MGS is managed by a Head Office team, dispersed strategically around the country.

**Responsibilities**:
**Main Responsibilities**
- Ensure that all dogs are correctly groomed, fed and cared for.
- Ensure that the day to day maintenance of the kennels, whether by dog handlers, or a specifically employed kennel person is satisfactorily carried out. Ensuring that the kennels are cleaned daily, disinfected at least weekly with the appropriate disinfectant.
- Establishing a suitable training programme for all the handlers and keeping the Operational Manager informed of progress. Maintain and sign off all Continuation Training (CT) to the appropriate dog records.
- Completing, dispatching as necessary and maintaining all relevant documentation as listed in standing orders, in particular accounting for dog rations as per JSP456.
- Carry out the duties of a dog handler on shift if required in accordance with standing orders. In this event the job description for a CSO5 dog handler will apply.
- Inform all interested parties of an intended DEO inspection/visit and make any appointments as necessary.
