**What you will be doing**

To provide a comprehensive Safeguarding and Wellbeing service to students with a particular focus on vulnerable groups of, including, but not exclusively: Children Looked After and Care Leavers, Young Carers, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Children, and self-identified LGBTQIA students. The postholder will ensure that these vulnerable and disadvantaged groups receive an enhanced support service offer throughout the learner journey. To assess and provide support for students and prospective students with safeguarding, mental health and personal welfare challenges, including provision of ‘early help’ and curriculum staff support.
- Provide a first point of contact for staff and students with safeguarding and wellbeing concerns, including mental health
- To support with coordination and delivery of cross college support for our cohort of Children Looked After, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Children and Care Leaver
- To support with coordination and delivery of cross college support for our cohort of Young Carers. This will include working towards the relevant quality standard.
- To liaise with external agencies and individuals working in support of the above groups, including Children’s Services, Charities, Accommodation Providers, Social workers, Support Workers etc. to ensure that these students are able to fully access the statutory services which will enable them to succeed in College.
- To liaise with curriculum staff and other support staff to ensure positive outcomes for service users, including retention, achievement and progression. This will include the negotiation of reasonable adjustments necessary to enable the students to overcome barriers to learning.
- Signposting and referral of students to additional internal and external sources of support, providing advocacy where appropriate.
- To contribute to the development and maintenance of a range of resources, both electronic and paper, which support the personal and social welfare of students.
- Maintaining accurate timely and confidential records of interventions and reporting as required to the College Management
- Contribute to the day to day operational needs of the wider Student Services department including cover for sickness and annual leave where appropriate.
- To work flexibly as a member of the College supporting colleagues and the general operation of the area and including weekend and evening work if required.
- Attend and contribute to appropriate team meetings, staff development and marketing
- Proactively engage with students in service evaluation and quality improvement
- Support young people and vulnerable adults at risk of harm
- To make appropriate referrals to statutory bodies and other internal and external services based on assessed needs and risk
- Devise, coordinate and monitor risk assessments and support plans and agree safety plans for students at ongoing risk of harm which maximise individual potential and achievement
- To implement best practice in relation to safeguarding, Prevent and mental health
- To fully comply with key policies, notably Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding
- To be up to date with legislation, guidance, policy and initiatives to inform practice
