**Purpose**:To support the People We Support in partaking in evening activities tailored to their likes and care needs for the first part of your shift and then maintaining the cleanliness of the home and completing tasks that have been allocated by your line manager. As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will be required to remain awake and alert during the full length of the shift, spot checks will be carried out at regular intervals by the leadership team.

**What are the main responsibilities of this role?**

1. Working under the direction of Ashfield House’s leadership team, and with the People We Support to facilitate evening activities that take place in or out of the home that enable the residents to live the lives they desire without unnecessary time restrictions put in place.
- Spend time to get to know the client’s likes, interests and hobbies and work with the Waking Night team leader to facilitate appropriate person-centred evening activities.
- To be able to produce risk assessments relating to evening activities with support from the Waking Night Team Leader.
- To work alongside your colleagues - both day and night to build a team which enables the People We Support to feel secure, and which also creates an enjoyable working environment for the staff team.
- To be able use the computer competently to source activities, ideas and activities for the People We Support.

2. Working in accordance with the ‘Domestic Duties’ task list to create a clean, safe and suitable living environment for the People We Support and report any maintenance issues to management. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Cleaning all communal areas to a high standard of hygiene.
- Wash and dry clients’ clothing in accordance with label instructions.
- Deep cleaning a communal area on a rota basis.
- Making sure all safety checks are complete.

3. To read and sign all care and support files to gain a good knowledge of the service users and know what support they may need relating to their emotional, educational, physical, and personal care needs.
- Some of the People We Support may at times present challenging behaviour and you will be expected to act accordingly with their individual NAPPI guidelines to prevent and de-escalate incidents (training on NAPPI and associated techniques will be provided).
- Some of the People We Support may at times need help with their personal care needs, however, will often just require prompts and/or mínimal support.

4. Work within the community’s policies and procedures and code of conduct and actively promote the equality and diversity and the human right of residents to realise independence, choice, inclusion, and control.

5. Undertake training and continuous professional development in accordance with the needs of the service and the residents.

6. Undertake personal development to develop and understanding of our philosophy and values and how these inform and guide practice in the key responsibilities of the role.

7. To have (or willing to work towards) a good knowledge of Microsoft teams and general IT usage and programmes.

8. To be able to produce documents and daily notes to a high standard and accordance with the home’s requirements.

9. To undertake an induction that also includes:

- Fire safety procedures and each individual’s personal evacuation plan.
- Matters relating to health and safety.
