**Job summary**:
Working in Navy Command as part of Navy Nuclear Portfolio Group (NNPG) in the Submarine Directorate you will be responsible for delivery of the Submarine Directorate Strategy and Navy Nuclear Strategy. This is a stretching G6 role with significant exposure to complex delivery challenges in a unique operational context.

As Head of Future Delivery you will work closely with the portfolio management team to provide decision support for investment choices and lead strategic analysis to determine optimum routes to strengthen resilience in submarine generation. You will secure broader support for priority delivery, working across Navy, the Defence Nuclear Enterprise and beyond.

As a member of the NNPG SLT, you will also deputise for the Navy Nuclear Portfolio Director (SCS1*), supporting them in their capacity as a member of the Submarine Directorate Executive Coordination Function and driving the development of all NNPG functions to full operating capacity (FOC).

The post will be based in either Portsmouth NCHQ or London Main Building, with the expectation of regular travel between the two sites and occasional travel to other defence locations including HMNB Clyde and Devonport and the Submarine Delivery Agency in Bristol.

The postholder reports to the Navy Nuclear Portfolio Director (SCS1*) who in turn reports to the Director Submarines. The postholder will initially line manage one G7 Strategy Manager, with countersigning responsibility for an SEO. This will increase as the team grows.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:

- Submarine Directorate Strategy delivery - including strategic business case support to project and programme teams and decision support to portfolio investment choices.
- Navy Nuclear Strategy development and delivery, and support to Balance of Investment decision making across Navy and Defence Nuclear Enterprise portfolios, ensuring strategic inter-dependencies are considered.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to improve delivery or take advantage of new developments to determine the optimum route to build resilience in Submarine generation activity, leading across organisations to generate strategic options.
- Securing cross Navy, Defence Nuclear Enterprise, wider Defence and HMG support for priority delivery, collaborating with Navy and Defence Nuclear Organisation strategy and policy teams.
- Maintaining high level briefing and communications packs (strategic narratives and core briefs).
- Growing and leading a small team of strategic delivery professionals.
- Deputising for the Navy Nuclear Portfolio Director (SCS1*) who is leading the Navy Nuclear Portfolio Group - with a broader remit including portfolio management, assuring transitions across all classes of submarine, safety, and security and resilience. This will include tracking and managing the Navy Nuclear Portfolio Group delivery plan to FOC and supporting the Portfolio Director in their capacity as a member of the Executive Coordination Function.
