King’s International Foundation Coordinator
2 weeks ago
Job Description
King’s Foundations are looking for an experienced and suitably qualified person to join the team delivering the King’s International Foundation (KIF) Programme. The KIF Programme is a specialist academic course designed for ambitious international students who want to progress to undergraduate degrees at King’s College London. We are a popular programme (730 students in 22/23) with a diverse intake and recent growth has led to the creation of this new role.
You will work with the Head of Programme and two current coordinators to oversee the development of the Foundation programme, ensuring that the learning outcomes, content, assessments, and modes of delivery prepare students for UG degrees at King’s.
You will have a particular focus on overseeing STEM provision, working with key stakeholders both within and outside the department to ensure our students progress to a range of UG departments as engaged, effective, independent learners who achieve their potential.
You will also be asked to undertake other departmental duties such as line management, participating in working groups and committees, and managing projects as required.
Please note that as some of the students you teach will be under 18, and as you may be required to act as Personal Tutor to these students, an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service is a prerequisite for the role.
In addition, although King’s Foundations is based in the iconic Bush House, a Grade II listed building that formerly housed the BBC World Service, you may also be required to work on any of the King’s campuses, or from home.
This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.
This is a full-time post.
Key responsibilities
- To oversee the development and delivery of the Foundation curriculum, ensuring that the learning outcomes, content, assessments, and modes of delivery prepare students for common destination degrees at King’s.
- To ensure that modules on the four STEM pathways (currently Computer Science & Maths; Engineering & Maths; Physics & Maths; Biology & Chemistry) align and support each other to deliver a coherent student experience at the appropriate level.
- To develop effective working relationships with academic and professional services colleagues from a diverse range of backgrounds, both within and outside the department.
- To ensure that the quality of our programmes of study adhere to stated College and sector standards.
- To help drive innovation and inclusion in education and pedagogy within the department, making sure that this aligns with relevant departmental and college strategies.
- To embed the principles of assessment for learning across the programme, with specific responsibility for assessment on the STEM modules.
- To line manage teaching staff within the department.
- To teach up to 150 hours on relevant departmental modules on the KIF programme such as Science and Society.
- To take an active role in the department’s leadership team, helping to inspire positive change that enables staff to deliver an excellent educational experience.
- To undertake other associated duties as deemed appropriate by the Department Executive; for example, managing projects and other workstreams.
- The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post._
