**Construction Tutor: Job Description**
**Post: Construction Tutor (Basic Skills)**
**Responsible To**:Head of Learning
**Purpose of the Post**:The Vulcan Centre has a newly built, grant funded, construction workshop, which was built to extend our current education offer, that supports young people and adults in the local community, to move them closer to the labour market. It has been in operation for 4 months and is proving popular.
You will work closely with the managing director and our small team of education Staff to plan, teach and assess children and adults the skills required to move them closer to employment in the construction industry.
A willingness to take risks and think outside the box when delivering sessions would be advantageous, as the role will involve working with disengaged young people who have often experienced multiple barriers to learning.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with an understanding of these barriers and a passion to work with vulnerable young people.
**Main Functions**:
- Dealing with people - 60%
- Dealing with processes - 10%
- Dealing with equipment and resources - 30%
**Key Duties**:
- To deliver innovative, engaging and motivational Construction courses which will support learners to develop their skills, knowledge and behaviours with the objective of moving them into or closer to secure, sustainable work.
- To have combined competence within the Construction industry to be able to teach the basics.
- Ensure that Initial Assessment and information and advice are robust and support the individual learner plan and needs.
- Sessions should develop the learners’ skills, knowledge and behaviours.
- To ensure the marking of work and assessment are completed in a timely manner and that this is then given in both written and verbal developmental feedback to your learners.
- To keep timely and accurate records of the learner journey on the relevant systems, including attendance, engagement and outcomes.
- To embed throughout the learner journey E&D, Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values.
- To ensure that learner evaluative feedback is collected and recorded after each session and reviewed to support continuous improvement and to keep your line manager regularly updated on course progression.
- To keep abreast of developments within teaching and learning and ensure that you are updating your own CPD to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Attend meetings as and when required, including Standardisation; Team Meetings
**Person Specification**
**Person Specification Essential Desirable**
A passion for supporting young people **
Knowledge of Key Stage 4 and Post 16 Education processes **
Level 3 Teaching Qualification **
GCSE or equivalent Maths & English/Functional Skills Level 2 **
evidence a good working knowledge
Experience of using data management systems **
Safeguarding, Prevent Awareness and E&D training to encourage individuals to **
value diversity and challenge behaviour which undermines the ethos of equality
Able to display a wide range of teaching methods to engage learners and respond **
to the diverse requirements and needs of individuals
Driven to deliver the best employer/industry led skills training and willingness to **
understand employer or industry requirements
Experience of working with learners with various complex learner needs **
Prioritise and manage workloads **
Be able to prepare and deliver presentations **
Committed to continuous improvement of own skills and development **
Appropriate DBS checks **
Be able to work independently and as a member of a team **
Own and drive a car **
**Conditions of Service**
**Salary**:Approximately £30,000 for 37hrs/week
**Contract Type & Length **This post is being offered on a fixed term basis (18 months), a 3 month probation period will be in place during this time. When the fixed term contract expires we expect there to be a new contract in place.
**Location**:Based at our Centre in Heron Street in West Hull
**Criminal Records**:An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check will be necessary for the successful applicant.
