Cyber security plays an integral role in protecting the UK against external and internal threats, acting as a deterrence to ensure that our Armed Forces have the strong cyber defences they need.

The Cyber Defence and Risk (CyDR) team is at the forefront of Cyber Security and Information Technology within Defence and is responsible for enabling Defence through the provision of specialist assurance and cyber security services across UK Defence, including industry partners, other Government Departments and our international allies. Services provided by CyDR include:

- MOD defensive cyber strategy development
- Development of cyber security policy
- Managing and driving mitigation of Departmental cyber risk
- Security assurance and accreditation support and advice

CyDR sits within the Defence Digital team who provide digital and technology services to our Armed Forces. **Job description**:
The CyDR Analytics Team Leader identifies, understands and mitigates cyber-related risks. They provide risk or service owners with advice to help them make well informed risk-based decisions. It does this through leading the Analytics team in measuring and assessment of Defence’s cyber risks, furthering the understanding of risks carried and enabling their reduction.

The role holder is responsible for the team that collates data on defensive cyber risk, whilst leading and being a part of the effort to analyse, and interpret within the wider context, this data. It is responsible for the delivery of metrics for consumption at operational and strategic levels, through the provision of data and insights, with upward reporting and briefings regarding cyber activity and resulting risk assessments enabling seniors (all the way up to the Defence Board) to make informed investment decisions.

The position sits within the Cyber Risk Management team, a small, highly specialised team within the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) directorate in Defence Digital. We develop and maintain a wider understanding of cyber risks and capabilities, across Defence’s complex and challenging environments. We identify possible gaps and issues to inform key defence programmes on how to mitigate these and understand how the resulting activity will help to reduce risks.

**Responsibilities**:
This exciting opportunity to take up the Cyber Manager Lead role, will enable Directorate awareness of defensive cyber risk, through the provision of metrics and insights, that both enrich Defence’s understand of its cyber capability and allow for evidence-based decision making.

Responsibilities include:

- Leading and managing the CyDR Data Analytics team
- Developing and evolving the suite of metrics products delivered, based on changing requirements, understanding and data
- Reporting and presenting written and verbal findings to operational and senior leaders, both routinely (including quarterly Defence Board and Cyber Resilience Oversight Board) and also in line with ad hoc requirements
- Understanding how the team’s analytical products are created through a variety of tools, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBI, and pushing to modernise what the team delivers through optimal exploitation of these and other analytical tools
- Engaging across Defence to understand the context of data insights and to draw out the “so what?” of what is being presented. Understanding what messages are most meaningful to customers and pre-empting what further information will be required.
