**Job summary**:
All analysts in DLUHC are based within Analysis and Data Directorate. The Directorate is made up of a number of multi-disciplinary teams responsible for delivering evidence across the range of core Departmental priorities, for example on housing, planning, local government finance and local economic growth.
The services we provide are always in high demand including from senior officials, ministers, and their special advisers, both here and in other government departments (most notably Number 10, HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office) and have been highly influential in shaping and designing policy.
The Directorate offers a fast-moving, friendly and intellectually stimulating environment, where you can make a real contribution to maintaining this high quality evidence base used for formulating government policy.
Local government has a role in everyone’s daily lives, whether that is via schools and social services or street lighting, rubbish collection and parks. Their expenditure represents around a fifth of all Government expenditure. Our statistics play a crucial role in informing policy decisions on local government funding and regulation and support the department’s objective to help local government deliver high quality services with sustainable finances.
There is a growing demand for high quality local government finance data as key users, both within DLUHC and more widely across government (including HMT, OBR and ONS), have been making increasing use of this data.
**Job description**:
- The post provides the opportunity to work in busy data collection and publishing teams, providing key support to our data modernisation programme. It offers opportunities to be involved in all aspects of statistical work, from data collection and processing, through to analysis and publication. This will involve working closely with staff from across the wider data collection team to explore opportunities to improve statistical processing.
- The job holder will have the scope to develop their coding skills to drive forward these improvements. The post offers an excellent opportunity for someone to think creatively, expand their technical skills and drive forward improvements.
- The role is likely to include:
- Building and testing data collection forms, including built in checks to ensure data quality.
- Analysis of data returns, including validating data to guarantee quality.
- Using coding skills and software to create and run efficient data processing to produce publication outputs.
- Written communication with a variety of audiences. Including:
- Communication with local authority data suppliers to highlight and resolve inconsistencies;
- Managing inboxes and responding to queries regarding the data and measures, including freedom of information requests,
- Communicating key trends and movements with expert and non-expert users when publications are released
- Wider support to the rest of the team such as quality assurance of other statistical outputs using established practices.
- Working effectively to deadlines, especially around the time of publication releases. Giving consideration beyond the immediate task to ensure that work across teams and projects is carried out in an efficient way.
