**Your new role**
National Highways have an exciting opportunity for two Assistant Project Managers to join the Regional Investment Programme (RIP) within the Major Projects (MP) directorate across the north of England.
RIP is one of four programmes within National Highways Major Projects Directorate. Major Projects is responsible for the delivery of nearly 70 projects with a total value more than £14 billion, and some of the most exciting and challenging projects in thecountry. National Highway’s goal is to change the industry: to make roads and their construction and maintenance safer; to be more responsive to the needs of our customers, particularly about biodiversity and carbon; and to exploit the digital agenda and drivethe productivity agenda to improve delivery.
We exist be a focal point for the delivery of sensitive and complex projects; growing individual talent and our organisational capacity to be successful. We strive to be creative and exploit digital and technological opportunities whilst maintaining thehighest standards in Safety, Health, Wellbeing and Customer Service to deliver great projects.
Within this role, you will be required to contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, carrying out assigned project work to ensure the achievement of project objectives within agreed time, quality, and cost thresholds. In line with this, you willbe maintaining effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards. Please note that as these projects evolve, site presence will be required, and you may spend time between your contractual office, and the site officealigned to your project.
You will work within Regional Investment Programme North, specifically on the nationally significant A66 Northern Trans-Pennine Project in Cumbria, County Durham and North Yorkshire.
You will be based in Darlington, Penrith, Leeds or Manchester and the role will involve travel across the North of England. Following successful delivery of this programme, you may transition onto other transformation programmes, or capital project delivery.
**What you’ll be leading on**
- Contribute to the creation of high quality baseline management products, produce timely and accurate reports, and create and maintain specified records.
- Carry out feasibility, design, and assessment work for proposed projects, to inform the development of business cases and investment proposals.
- Plan and define project steps or schedules, consistent with defined review milestones and priorities, to contribute to the design of the overall project plan.
- Contribute to the identification, implementation and monitoring of day-to-day support for the project activities including contract compliance, risk management, Health & Safety, financial management and reporting, document control, assurance and governance.
- Contribute to the management of the project contract under NEC 4 and the management of any contract used to support the project delivery

- Commercially focused, to drive project performance and value for money
- High resilience, to deal constructively with conflicting priorities and setbacks.
- Experience of safety compliance to successfully deliver projects.
