**Role Overview**
Healthcare Assistants hold significant contribution to the successful operation of the clinic. They are responsible for performing clinical tests and supporting the clinical assessment of each patient and for ensuring that all patients understand their treatment. The Healthcare Assistant will conduct pre-assessment clinics and be able to assist in Theatre admissions and discharge, where required. They are also responsible for supporting the smooth and efficient running of the practice, retrieving patient notes, recording and filing clinical outcomes and utilising Newmedica’s electronic patient records.
Combining a friendly and accessible personal manner with advanced clinical testing skills, they pride themselves in delivering a great patient experience and their ability to work within small teams to maintain and enhance processes to maximise quality and efficiency. **What skills and experience do I need?**
We’ll provide training so experience isn’t always needed, but the following things will be
advantageous:
- A passion for healthcare and supporting patients.
- Previous experience of working with patients or in a customer facing role essential
- An excellent grasp of the English language, both verbally and in written format.
- Proven administrative skills and the enjoyment of the routine and rhythm of a process driven and regulated environment.
- A competent user of computer systems and programs.
- Committed to deliver consistently high standards of care to patients.
- A good team player - happy to jump in and support others when required.
- The desire for, and commitment to, continuous professional development. Previous experience in a healthcare or surgical environment or dealing with a variety of data for example patient records, GP and patient correspondence and diagnostic tests advantageous.
**Experience and knowledge**
- Knowledge of clinical practice and demonstrable knowledge of developments in Optometry required.
- Experience of and commitment to medical audit.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office products and using computerised systems for data input/output and review.
**Skills & personal attributes**
- Enjoys the routine and rhythm of a process driven environment.
- Ability to work in different theatre environments adapting to different surgeons
- Able to balance working independently with appropriate escalation and delegation.
- Committed to deliver consistently high standards of care to patients.
- Seeks continuous professional development.
- Self-motivated to provide an excellent level of communication and individual care for patients.
- Comfortable making a significant contribution, including teaching and training, in a small multi-disciplinary team.
