Downsfield Medical Centre is a well-established, friendly, and patient-focused general practice committed to delivering high-quality healthcare. We are looking for an organised, efficient, and compassionate **Medical Receptionist/Prescription Clerk** to join our dedicated team.

**Role Overview**

This is a dual role requiring excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. As a **Medical Receptionist**, you will be the first point of contact for our patients, providing exceptional front-of-house service. As a **Prescription Clerk**, you will help manage repeat prescription requests and ensure the safe and timely processing of medication orders.
- Please note: Cover may be required for colleagues during annual leave or sick leave._

**Key Responsibilities**

**Reception Duties**:

- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Answer telephone calls, handle queries, and direct calls appropriately.
- Manage patient appointments and update records using the clinical system.
- Handle patient registrations and maintain accurate documentation.
- Support the clinical team with administrative tasks.
- Greet patients warmly and assist them with check-in and check-out procedures.
- Manage appointment scheduling, including booking, rescheduling, and cancelling appointments as necessary.
- Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, addressing patient inquiries or directing them to the appropriate staff member.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality in accordance with data protection regulations.
- Process patient forms and documentation, ensuring all information is complete and up to date.
- Coordinate with medical staff to ensure seamless communication regarding patient needs and appointments.
- Maintain a clean and organised reception area, creating a welcoming environment for patients.

**Prescription Clerk Duties**:

- Process repeat prescription requests accurately and efficiently.
- Liaise with GPs, pharmacies, and patients to resolve prescription queries.
- Ensure medication requests comply with practice protocols and safety standards.
- Manage prescription-related administrative tasks, including updating patient records.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care.

**Essential Skills and Experience**:

- Previous experience in a receptionist, admin, or prescription clerk role (ideally in a healthcare setting).
- Strong IT skills and familiarity with clinical system Systemone is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and professionalism.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Knowledge of NHS processes and medical terminology.
- Experience handling prescriptions and medication requests.
- Understanding of data protection and information governance.
