**Primary Purpose of the Post**: To provide a contemporary and comprehensive outreach engagement and education service on behalf of the Trust.

**Note: The ability to communicate both written and verbally through the medium of Welsh is essential for this post.**

Background Information
Based in Bangor in northwest Wales, Gwynedd Archaeological Trust (GAT) is a registered charity, whose objective is to enhance public education and understanding in the field of archaeology. We are dedicated to investigating, recording, understanding, protecting and promoting archaeology and the historic environments of north-west Wales.
The Trust is also constituted as a company limited by guarantee and provides a source of wide-ranging academic and professional expertise, and services, in archaeology and related areas.
Since its formation in 1974, GAT has consolidated its status as the leading professional organisation in the region, with specialist knowledge of archaeology and historic landscapes.
GAT advises residents and visitors, local authorities, commercial companies and the Welsh Government to help everyone get the best out of understanding our outstanding historic environment and to ensure that it is protected for future generations. The Trust also offers professional services over a wider area, both within Wales and beyond.
Gwynedd Archaeological Trust Ltd is governed by a Board of Trustees which has a Management Committee. The Trust currently has eighteen members of staff, working over three departments: Finance & Admin; Heritage Management and Contracts.
The Heritage Managementsection is responsible for maintaining the regional Historic Environment Record (HER), including its online provision _Archwilio,_ providing archaeological planning services to local authorities, advising users on the landscape and historic environment implications of proposals, primarily for agri-environmental schemes, and delivering an outreach and education program.
The Contract Section carries out a wide range of archaeological services including desk-based assessment, geophysical survey, excavation and building recording work. This is complemented by long-established contacts and partnerships with external specialists and organisations, enabling the Trust to offer extensive consultation and implementation services. There is also an active Friends of Gwynedd Archaeological Trust.
Duties & Responsibilities **Working with the chief Archaeologist, to develop, consult on and review outreach strategies for GAT**
- To develop wider and more diverse audiences for GAT’s outreach and education work through the development and implementation of the outreach strategy
- To plan and manage community, outreach and education programs of work including work associated with other Trust projects. To organise and deliver outreach and education events, visits, walks, talks, training and workshops, bilingually, as appropriate. This can involve evening and weekend work as the event requires e.g. Hosting the GAT stand at family events e.g. Bryn Celli Day Open Day, The National Eisteddfod
- To supervise the day-to-day work of colleagues appointed to work on outreach and education projects
- To be responsible for the development of a volunteer program and to mentor, trainee placement staff and volunteers
- To be responsible for the continued development of a schools and education programme and to collaborate on projects with schools
- To represent GAT at strategic and regional meetings and events
- To assist the chief archaeologist to develop GAT’s website and social media communication
