PARENTS WORKER
35 hours per week - Salary £25,811 - £27,538
Cornerhouse (Yorkshire) are looking to appoint a passionate individual to join our team to support the parents of the young people supported throughout the organisation who are being exploited.
This is a brand new and exciting role for us to be able to bring into the team. Cornerhouse support Children and Young People with support needs relating to emotional wellbeing, including C&YP at risk of being exploited, C&YP who identify at LGBTQIA+ and with children in their own environment on outreach. The worker appointed to this post will add as an additional support to the families currently supported by project workers. The Parents worker will support parents/ carers whose children are at risk of or who are being exploited.
The worker will have a good understanding of different types of child exploitation including criminal and sexual exploitation, the risks, susceptibility of young people, push and pull factors etc. They will also have experience of working with trauma and will be able to work with a trauma informed approach. Cornerhouse has adopted the trauma informed approach of the ARC model. The worker will need to be able to work with other partners including Social Care, Police, VEMT (Vulnerable, Exploitation, and Missing Team), Youth Justice Service and VCS.
Our focus is to build a trusting relationship with young people and parents by treating them with non-judgemental positive regard. This is based on the professional understanding that a lack of power and control is a contributing factor to the abusive or exploitative context of their lives, and therefore believe in a person-centred approach that enables young people to have control and autonomy over this phase of the model.
The main purpose of the job is to support parents and carers to address the issues faced by their family and young people. This may include but is not limited to safety planning, effective recording of events, and signposting to other services.
