Creative Youth Worker

The Creative Youth Worker (Youth Work Lead) role is integral to Beyond the Margins, a three-year project providing creative and mental health support to marginalised young people. This role is focused on fostering interpersonal skills, confidence, and leadership among young people aged 8-25, particularly those engaged as Volunteers, and Young Marginal Associates.
The postholder will co-deliver creative and youth work-focused sessions alongside the Zine lead, ensuring young people receive both emotional and practical support in their development. They will also provide supervision for Marginal Associate’s, facilitate group sessions, and offer 1-2-1 mentoring, working flexible hours, including evenings and Saturdays to meet young people’s needs. Additionally, they will play a key role in coordinating and facilitating the annual _Beyond the Margins_ community celebration event, bringing together young people, partners, and the wider community to showcase creative work and achievements.

**Main Tasks and Responsibilities**
Ø Youth Work Delivery & Group Facilitation: Co-deliver creative and youth work sessions with the Zine lead, ensuring sessions are engaging, inclusive, and support young people’s social and emotional development. Create safe spaces for expression, creativity, and personal growth.
Ø Marginal Associate support: Act as the primary point of contact for Young Marginal Associates, providing guidance, structured supervision, and ensuring they are well-supported in their roles.
Ø 1-2-1 Youth Mentoring: Offer tailored mentoring to young people, particularly those in leadership or Associate roles, supporting them with work related challenges, confidence-building, and emotional well-being.
Ø Youth Leadership and Empowerment Workshops: Deliver workshops focused on youth leadership, self-advocacy, and well-being skills. Develop young people’s interpersonal and decision-making skills whilst helping them gain experience in leading projects and peer-led initiatives.
Ø Safe & Inclusive Space Facilitation: Implement trauma-informed approaches to create a welcoming and affirming environment for marginalised young people, including and not limited to LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse youth.
Ø Advocacy and Youth Voice: Champion young people’s voices within Beyond the Margins and ensure their lived experiences shape the programme. Encourage them to use creative storytelling, zines, and comics as tools for advocacy and self-representation.
Ø Community & Outreach Engagement: Build partnerships with schools, youth organisations, and community groups to recruit participants and expand opportunities for young people to share their creative work.
Ø Flexible and Anti-Social Hours: Work evenings and weekends as required to maximise engagement and ensure young people can access support when they need it most (our latest sessions finish by 6:30pm).
**Experience & Skills**
Essential:
Ø Experience working with marginalised young people in a youth work, mentoring, or community support capacity.
Ø Understanding of trauma-informed and anti-oppressive youth work practices.
Ø Experience in delivering peer mentoring, youth leadership, or empowerment programmes.
Ø Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to co-lead sessions in a way that supports personal and social development.
Ø Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures in youth settings.
Ø Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a supportive and empathetic approach.
Ø Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and Saturday’s.
Ø Interest in Zines and Comics.
**Desirable**
Ø Experience in creative facilitation, zine making, or arts-based youth work.
Ø Valid UK driving license.
**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 24 months
Pay: £22,078.00-£24,570.00 per year
Expected hours: 30 per week
