**Job description**:

- The BEIS Climate Science team is looking for an enthusiastic scientist with excellent science communication skills and a strong interest in diplomacy in global climate action. The UK hosted the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) inNovember 2021, and our team led on the science within this process. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will also be delivering new parts of its Sixth Assessment Report over the next year and this report will be a critical input to the UNFCCC, before moving to its next cycle of work. This is an exciting time to be joining the team, as the UK transitions away from its important role as President of COP, and will be important in leading global climate action.- The Climate Science Team sits within BEIS’s Science and Innovation for Climate and Energy (SICE) Directorate and is responsible for providing scientific advice on issues including the climate system, greenhouse gas emissions and pathways, climate risks, bioenergy and geo-engineering. Specifically, you will:

- Work across the entire UK climate negotiating teams to ensure the UK negotiating positions reflect the best available science.
- Ensure the findings of the IPCC’s 6th Assessment Reports support informed and ambitious climate action globally, working across BEIS, wider government departments, embassies and international governments.
- Help develop a strong UK vision for the IPCC’s 7th Assessment cycle.
- Lead on the planning and development of briefings for a variety of audiences where they relate to policy-relevant international topics, whilst playing key role in the broader communications function across the climate science team.
- Lead on the UK's annual financial contribution to the IPCC and facilitate the involvement of UK authors within the IPCC process through managing finances and working relationships with academics involved with IPCC.
