We currently have an opening for three G6 Head of Commercial roles and are looking for experienced leaders who can lead complex commercial activity, support delivery teams, and drive value across our most high-profile programmes.

DSIT is at the centre of DDaT within government and has recently expanded its scope and impact, uniting top experts in data, digital, and AI from the Government Digital Service (GDS), the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO), Geospatial and the Incubator for AI (i.AI). This exciting expansion will amplify efforts to digitally transform public services under one powerful department.

At the heart of this transformation, the DSIT Commercial function plays a crucial role in enabling the Department to achieve its bold ambitions. The Commercial team has recently reviewed and revamped its service offering, operating model and structure, positioning itself as a key enabler of DSIT’s success.

These roles offer the opportunity to shape how we buy, build and grow digital services across government. They are key senior roles critical to continuing to deliver against a broad and ambitious digital agenda.

**Job description**:
These roles sit within DSIT’s central Commercial team and provide senior commercial leadership across some of the department’s most high-profile digital programmes.

Each role will have a defined remit within the newly expanded Government Digital Service (GDS), which now brings together GOV.UK, One Login, digital identity, geospatial services, the National Data Library, and emerging areas such as AI and digital capability — creating a single, coherent delivery function at the heart of government.

Each role will lead a commercial team and work closely with digital, policy, delivery and operational colleagues to shape and drive successful commercial outcomes. You’ll be responsible for end-to-end commercial delivery — from early engagement and sourcing strategy through to contract management and supplier performance.

You’ll be responsible for:

- Leading on sourcing strategies, commercial delivery and elements of contract management
- Managing strategic supplier relationships and driving delivery through commercial levers
- Embedding commercial thinking across multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Providing expert commercial advice to senior stakeholders and programme boards
- Supporting DSIT’s commercial transformation and driving continuous improvement

These roles offer the opportunity to lead critical commercial work at the centre of digital government, shaping services with national visibility and real-world impact.

As a senior member of the DSIT Commercial team, you’ll lead commercial activity for a defined part of the GDS portfolio, working closely with delivery, digital, policy and operational colleagues. You’ll report to a Deputy Director and play a visible leadership role across GDS and DSIT’s broader commercial function.

**Locations**:
Your time spent on official duties at workplace locations other than your contractual office such as supplier, customer or partner locations required to perform your role is included in the 60% attendance.
