The role
Fugro is now seeking an ambitious Senior Geoenvironmental Engineer/Scientist to join the Land Site Characterisation team based from the Wallingford, Oxfordshire office.
The Land Site Characterisation division is responsible for acquiring and interpreting accurate environmental, geotechnical and geophysical data which enables our clients to make informed decisions during the engineering, design and construction phases ofinfrastructure development projects, ultimately reducing project risk and costs.
Reporting to a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will take responsibility for independently delivering the findings of onshore and nearshore site characterisation projects whilst managing a small engineering team. From timeto time, you will also lead site-based teams.

Who you’ll be working with:
You will be part of our large team of more than 70 Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental engineers, which is the powerhouse of our technical expertise. Reporting to a Principal Geoenvironmental Engineer the Senior Geoenvironmental Engineer works closely withstaff at all levels throughout the Fugro Group.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
- Assisting Principal Geoenvironmental Engineers in the technical direction, resource management, planning, mentoring and training of a team of engineers/scientists and monitoring technicians;
- Communicate directly with Clients and Fugro’s project management team to ensure requirements are met;
- Technically manage a portfolio of various sized projects within billed allowances, ensuring compliance with the specification and delivery of projects to programme dates;
- Attend site either as a site manager or for the purposes of training and mentoring junior staff.
- Delegate and distribute project responsibilities to junior staff and oversee their work;
- Provide geoenvironmental consultancy services;
- Preparing and checking Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk studies), technical advice notes, ground models, drawings and geotechnical and geo-environmental interpretative reports and assisting with marine licensing and dredging impact assessments.
- Review and approval of data provided by the laboratory, specialist geoenvironmental CPT, geophysics, drilling and specialist testing professionals.
Who we’re looking for:
- Demonstrable experience within the Ground Engineering profession, with significant experience in Ground Investigation contracting;
- Achieved or actively pursuing chartership through an appropriate professional institution;
- Actively attending CPD programmes provided by professional institutions and specialist knowledge societies;
- Full UK Driving licence;
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Client offices and site locations across the UK;
- Computer literate, capable of using spreadsheets and SharePoint;
- Capable of generating a safe and quality-based culture within the team;
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
- A good team player and able to form working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels.
Qualifications:
A degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geotechnics. Earth Sciences or Environmental Engineering.
