The Customer, Strategy and Communications (CSC) directorate is growing and this is a great opportunity to get involved in developing and embedding our long term vision to 2050 for one of the most important assets in country - the Strategic Road Network (SRN).We are developing and enhancing our capability in order to manage our relationship with the government, key internal and external stakeholders and third party projects.
As a result, we are looking to recruit a Planning Manager for an exciting role within the Network Strategy team in the Network Planning Division. The role is not limited to any particular office location. As Planning Manager you will be responsible for keyactivities to develop, evolve and maintain the National Highways’ Masterplan vision for the Strategic Road Network (SRN) for the period up to 2050. This will include how we can deliver the vision across National Highways working with our Transformation team.This will also include involvement in the delivery of Digital Roads, management of specialist research, studies, development of strategies, working internally with the business and external stakeholders to inform the future vision and Masterplan for the SRN.In pursuing this role, the post holder will keep abreast of the latest technological, environmental, economic, demographic trends and scenarios and how they should influence National Highways approach to long term planning of the SRN.
What you’ll be working on
- Engaging with multi-disciplinary teams across National Highways and key external stakeholders, bringing together existing and newly commissioned evidence and strategies in a manner which provides both national and sub-regional perspective to the developmentof the network strategy
- Working jointly with all Directorates, the post holder will be responsible for delivering key project initiatives to ensure studies, strategies and research projects are progressed and inform the future long-term vision of the SRN
- Collaborate with industry stakeholders including supply chain, construction sector, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Academia to keep abreast of innovation/technology and infrastructure requirements
To be successful
- Knowledge of the role infrastructure plays at all levels in facilitating strategic development and planning the SRN generally
- Capability to work in a complex, customer facing environment to deliver successful outcomes
- Capability to operate strategically at national and/or sub-national level in strategy development or related environment
- Evidence of partnership working with a collaborative approach with strong stakeholder management, engagement, strong presentation and influencing skills with wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrable experience of working successfully and dynamically in a Programme or Project Management environment, preferably in a strategic, policy or transport planning role
- Knowledge and appreciation of wider levers that support effective investment delivery eg planning, public/private funding, other Government support mechanisms and interventions

We are responsible for the SRN’s long-term strategy by taking a comprehensive, consistent, and holistic approach. We work closely with other teams across the CSCdirectorate as well as the rest of the Company, to consider the impact of future technology; facilitate economic growth; develop schemes for investment in future Road Investment Strategy periods; and ensure that the SRN is mitigated effectively in relationto major external projects.
