An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Process Improvements Lead to join the Machine Shops team at Sheffield Forgemasters Engineering Ltd.
Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic heavy engineering company which is capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world from its manufacturing facilities in Sheffield.
SFEL is a world leader in supplying total engineering packages to solve the industry’s needs. We specialise in a broad range of bespoke heavy steel forgings and castings and produce a range of products for nuclear, defence, power generation, offshore oil and gas industries.
Spanning a 64-acre site, the Company has embarked on a significant business wide transformation programme to diversify into other sectors, building on strengths and developing capabilities, whilst driving operational excellence to achieve long term sustainability.
As Process Improvements Lead you will be Accountable for safety and Production support for the machine shops, contributing to and escalating decisions that affect safety and operational performance.
You will drive process and culture improvement by ensuring existing policies are up to date and aligned to how tasks are performed, create required additional policies and ensure robust train out, strong shop floor presence to ensure regular process compliance checks are conducted and improvements activities are identified, planned and executed in a timely manner
**The main duties of the role are as follows**:
- Build engagement by actioning improvement ideas generated from shop floor improvement sessions, creating working groups to track and record the benefits achieved.
- Drive compliance with risk governance procedures by reviewing Risk assessments (RA) and Safe working procedures (SWP) identifying requirements for upcoming tasks or changes in working practices ensuring procedures are updates prior to work commencing.
- Progress chasing and identifying when components are behind schedule and standards are not going to be achieved, raising this with engineering and assisting with improvement projects.
- Ensure all RA & SWP’s are produced, reviewed & delivered to relevant personnel.
- Work closely with the Site continuous improvement team to action Projects listed on our Kaizen tracker reporting cost benefits and presented to department leads
- Identify issues/problems by having a strong presence on the shop floor conducting process compliance checks, GEMBAS and shop floor engagement activities.
- Recommend solutions before securing sign off to ensure items identified from the various improvement gathering processes are implemented tracked and driven to completion by producing project plans and engaging with the relevant resource to close actions out in a timely manner, whilst remaining within departmental budgets
- Support the Health and Safety Manager with role out of new policies and procedures taking a pro-active approach to safety campaigns.
- Plan activities to support cellular working as we transition into our new onsite facility.
- Ensure all training plans are adhered to by helping to co-ordinate and monitor progress- Recognised managing safely qualification
- Project managements qualification
- Experience of creating RA & SWP’s
- Formal lean training (Green belt level or equivalent)
- Proven record of culture changes and sustainability
- Significant experience working as a professional supervisor or health and safety function within a manufacturing/production environment
- Well organised, with a structured approach to tasks and ensuring that actions are closed out
- Pro-active nature with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Able to identify projects using own initiative, communicate and roll out with mínimal guidance
- Personable and ability to motivate and influence others
- A professional approach with a high level of integrity
- Ability to work with others and take suggestions on board to ensure all improvements are sustained
- PUWER compliance trained
**Contract**:
Permanent 37.5 hours per week Standard Office Hours are: 07:45 - 16:00 however flexibility is essential for the requirements of this position
