**About Heritage and Culture Warwickshire**
Heritage and Culture Warwickshire (HCW) provide a wide range of services that help local communities and visitors to connect and engage with their local heritage. We safeguard Warwickshire’s archives, history and natural sciences, protect its historic and natural environment and provide high quality arts and cultural opportunities and lifelong learning for everyone in the County and beyond.
Heritage and Culture Warwickshire has several sites based in and around Warwick: Market Hall Museum, St Johns House Museum, Warwickshire County Record Office and a Collections Centre for the museum collections. We are a countywide service and work with partners from within and outside Warwickshire County Council to offer outreach services to local communities.
**About the Learning and Community Engagement team**
The Learning and Community Engagement team (Lace) consists of the Senior Lace Officer, a Lace Officer, a Lace Trainee, the Volunteer Coordinator, an Exhibitions and Engagement Officer who are the core team, and several teams of staff who deliver our activity programmes.
We deliver workshops for schools at HCW sites and in schools, an events and activities programme for families and adult audiences at the Market Hall Museum and the County Record Office, we run regular groups that meet at the Market Hall Museum such as Arty Tots, we run sleepovers and supervise overnight commercial hire of St Johns House Museum.
Our school workshop programme is delivered by a team of Group Leaders, assisted by the Support Assistant team. The Support Assistant team, with the Evening and Overnight Activity Leaders team, deliver our family holiday events in the Market Hall Museum and evening events. The Evening and Overnight Activity Leaders also supervise and run group sleepovers at the Market Hall Museum.
We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about working with the public, enjoy the challenge of no day being the same and are able to take the initiative if called upon.
**About the role of Relief Group Leader**
This role is working with the Learning and Community Engagement team to deliver our school workshop programme. The school workshop programme is delivered at sites based in Warwick, all in walking distance of each other and occasionally in partnership with Warwickshire Country Parks at Kingsbury Water Park. Group Leaders also deliver our schools outreach workshops in schools across Warwickshire, Coventry and occasionally into areas of Solihull and Birmingham. Your base of work would be St Johns House Museum, Warwick, where we have our own car park.
We are in an exciting time for our school workshop programme as changes are being made to our workshops making them immersive experiences using museum objects and drama techniques. Group Leaders are dynamic people, comfortable leading from the front and holding the attention of a group of people. Our workshops are engaging, encouraging inquiring minds and questioning from the children. There are no worksheets in our workshops.
Details of our existing school workshop programme can be seen on our webpages at heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk
The Group Leader team is supported by our Relief Support Assistant team who facilitate school visits, meeting and greeting schools and ensuring lunch facilities are ready. They also have a role to play in our workshops through-out the day. Team working is an essential part of the Group Leader role to ensure workshops run smoothly.
New team members will train on how to deliver workshops over several observations and will be supported in delivering their first workshops. Group Leaders are not expected to learn how to deliver every workshop we offer but are welcome to if they choose.
The post is offered as a casual contract as the availability of work is dependent upon school groups making bookings for workshops. The current hourly rate is £14.28 and includes a 12.5% increment for holiday and sickness.
Work is primarily available during term times due to the nature of the role. There will also be the opportunity to work with the Lace Officers on development of the school programme when this work is being undertaken.
We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with people and are friendly and welcoming. Good organisational and time keeping skills will help you succeed in this role. Teamworking and communication is key to this role.
