Relief Support Worker

Mencap are recruiting for Relief Support Workers in the Warwickshire area The role will cover Warwickshire Floating Support and Leamington and Kenilworth Supported Living Services.

Who you will be supporting?

The people you will be supporting enjoy a variety of activities including swimming, concerts, theatres, holidays, shopping, baking, cooking, socialising, holidays, daytrips, cinema, going to football matches, dancing, pottery, being part of their community…which at times can be a hectic schedule but very rewarding as all of the above plays a significant part in their lives. As well as the team that support them, some family and friends are also involved in their support. Indoor activities include, going to church, music sessions, cooking, life skills, listening to music, drawing and colouring, model making, arts and crafts, reading books, surfing the internet, games and puzzles, writing letters to family and friends, television, pampering sessions - manicures. What does a Support Worker do?

As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality. Typical responsibilities may include:

• Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
• Excellent communication skills and Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
• Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
• Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
