The Airspace Regulation (Technical) work in an environment within the CAA with military and CAA staff operating cohesively in a challenging role with changing deadlines. This role provides the opportunity to be at the forefront of evolving airspace change proposals in the UK within a diverse technical team with key decisions to be made. **The Role**
Like any form of infrastructure, ensuring that the UK’s airspace is fit for purpose is vital to enabling a thriving economy and a safe aviation environment for all participants. The UK has some of the most complex airspace in the world and its recently initiated modernisation programme represents a ground-breaking moment in the UK’s aviation history. Your role will sit at the very heart of the UKs developing airspace, where you will work within cross capability teams both within Airspace regulation, across the authority, across Government and with external sponsors.
**About You**
Minimum essential requirements for the role:
- You will possess an excellent understanding of UK airspace and air traffic operations
- Experience as an air traffic controller, professional aircrew, or the ability to demonstrate an equivalent level of technical expertise
- You will be flexible, committed, customer-focused and able to work under pressure
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully, diplomatically, and authoritatively with people at all levels
- Have proven ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels internally, with industry, and with national and international stakeholders
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills and good negotiating skills
- Have the ability to work with minimum supervision, be pro-active and possess strong time management skills to meet demanding deadlines
- Possess good organisational discipline and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplined team
- Sound understanding and experience of MS Office
Desirable skills for the role:
- Good working knowledge of the airspace change framework and national legislation with a sound understanding of implications for airspace users
- Clear understanding of Airspace Modernisation Strategy and related aims and objectives
- Understanding or experience of working within the any of the following: High Altitude Operations, Space Operations, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Advanced Air Mobility, Unmanned Traffic Management, Performance Based Navigation, Navigational Aids, GNSS approaches, Point in Space Approaches
- Good knowledge of the CAA and UK aviation industry supported by an understanding of key legislative factors influencing and determining the CAA’s role as an airspace regulator e.g. the Civil Aviation Act, Air Navigation Order, Rules of the Air Regulations, and the appropriate MAA Regulatory Publications
- Working knowledge of the ICAO, EASA and other international institutions that might impact upon UK airspace modernisation
- Awareness of the environmental impact of aviation, and of existing and developing strategies and actions to mitigate these
