Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity's greatest challenges.
Located on the Wellcome Genome Campus in Cambridgeshire, the Genomic Surveillance Unit (GSU) is a specialist genomics unit housed by the Wellcome Sanger Institute that exists to support partners across the world to use genomic surveillance as a tool to combat infectious disease. By supporting large scale pathogen and vector genomic surveillance solutions, the GSU helps to deliver value to public health at a local, regional and global level. With its 75 strong team, the GSU works collaboratively with its research partners and public health bodies to develop its services, acting as a catalyst for the use of genomic data in public health.
The GSU is now seeking a Chief Scientific Officer who is passionate about integrating genomic surveillance as a practical tool in public health disease control. This person will lead a portfolio of translational research, using their experience to provide insight, research new concepts and drive innovation across the GSU. Reporting to and working in close partnership with the Director, John Sillitoe, the Chief Scientific Officer will be an outstanding individual with a demonstrable track record of success in leading and conducting public health-oriented research with a focus on infectious diseases. The Chief Scientific Officer will be a key member of the GSU's leadership team, providing expert scientific insight and leadership that enables the GSU to contribute towards its strategic objectives.
