The Role & Key Responsibilities

Operation Bramber is an investigation into potential offences of Gross Negligence Manslaugter at a large medical establishment in Sussex. You will join a dedicated team of investigators.
The post holder will be responsible for gathering, examining and assessing material against the relevancy test for Operation Bramber on behalf of the Investigation Team, OIC, DS and SIO. The post holder will decide on the relevancy of that material to the investigation and suitable disclosure methods. The post holder is entrusted to ensure suitable handling and scheduling of all sensitive material.
The post holder must ensure any material that undermines a prosecution or assists the defence is highlighted to the investigation team and CPS in a timely manner.
In consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), SIO and Prosecuting Counsel, the post holder will be accountable and responsible for all aspects of the unused material in the investigation in accordance with investigation and court timelines.
To advise the SIO and CPS (and any other professional bodies, if required, such as HM Coroner) in relation to Third Party issues and where it may need to be obtained from.
To attend Crown Court, throughout the duration of a trial in order to assist the judiciary with any disclosure issues that may arise, also Coroners Court and other judicial hearings as directed by SIO, such as industrial deaths being investigated jointly with the Health and Safety executive, with disclosure made on a common law/voluntary basis. The post holder may be required to give evidence on matters appertaining to disclosure.
Skills & Experience
The post holder will:
Have proven and well evidenced experience in Disclosure and Exhibit officer roles and be able to understand the complexities and sensitivities of crime investigation. It is vital to ensure that material is assessed both thoroughly and accurately to negate all associated risks to the investigation and the reputation of Surrey & Sussex Police.
Experience in, and will be fully familiar with, all relevant aspects of the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996, Codes of Practice, Rules of Court and Regulations, Data Protection Act and Attorney General Guidelines.
Have the ability to work on their own initiative and prioritise workload effectively to ensure compliance with deadlines whilst managing a demanding workload. Be motivated, robust and resilient with a positive and flexible approach and have excellent communication and inter-personal skills, both oral and written. To work as part of a team, assisting colleagues when necessary.
