Risk and Issue Specialist

**In this role you are accountable for**: 1. Risk & Issue Management Developing and implementing a programme of regular facilitated risk and issue reviews/workshops with key teams and stakeholders and leading on the use of risk, issue and assurance techniques such as stakeholder analysis, PESTLE, SWOT, horizon scanning, group techniques, probability/ impact assessment, probability trees, sensitivity analysis, cost benefit analysis etc. Undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, as required by Governance Boards, Leadership Team, Audit and Risk Management Committee (ARC) and NHSBSA Main Board as appropriate. Developing and delivering risk and issue management training and awareness material to stakeholders, as required.
Working as a key part of the Corporate Governance Team to ensure that risks and issues are identified and escalated appropriately from services. Working in partnership with a wide range of colleagues to share knowledge and expertise of risk and issue management across the business. Acting as a direct link between operational risk and programme/project risk, addressing or escalating risks/issues as appropriate to the Governance, Risk and Assurance Lead, and other stakeholders as required. Planning the continuous improvement of risk and issue strategies, processes and procedures across the business.
Undertaking review and quality assurance of risk registers, mitigation actions etc. across the business, identifying improvement actions and acting as a coach/ mentor/ critical friend. Provide constructive challenge and recommendations to Risk Leads, as well as senior managers in the organisation and other key stakeholders to ensure accurate risk and issue data is provided to enable quality outputs to be produced, enabling effective decision-making at a senior level and assisting in driving delivery of the NHSBSA Strategy. Producing and managing the corporate-level risk and issue register, collating together key themes across all business risks and issues to identify possible corporate risks and issues, utilising knowledge and insight from key stakeholders.
Liaising with Leadership Team members and other senior managers to identify and monitor mitigating actions, as appropriate. Establishing risk management arrangements for new services facilitating the establishment of risk registers, processes, and facilitating risk potential assessments. Supporting the delivery of other key governance work, as directed. Be familiar with all other roles within the Corporate Governance Team to provide effective cover when required, and to be able to provide support, training and guidance on all aspects of Corporate Governance processes.
2. People and Leadership Communicate and build commitment to a shared vision and standards for risks and issues within the NHSBSA, ensuring accountability and championing the use of best practice via the NHSBSA Risk Management Framework. Building excellent internal and external networks within the healthcare family, wider government, and other organisations, to share working practices and drive best practice for risk and issue partnering. Drive development of colleagues across the business via leading by example, knowledge sharing, training, mentoring and contribution to professional development.
3. Governance & Reporting Establishing clear understanding and adherence to, and contributing to the ongoing development of, the NHSBSA Risk Management Framework, and wider links to the other elements of the NHSBSA Corporate Governance Framework. Co-ordinating risk and issue reporting to Governance Boards, Leadership Team, Audit and Risk Management Committee (ARC) and NHSBSA Main Board as appropriate. Driving accurate data and usage of tools for risk and issue reporting across the business, contributing to continuous development of the tools used to meet business needs.
Ensuring that the tools used are compliant with the NHSBSA Risk Management Framework and undertake regression testing to tool upgrades as necessary. 4. Stakeholder Management Establishing excellent stakeholder relationships within the team and across the NHSBSA. Engaging in debate, negotiating and influencing to resolve issues and differences between stakeholders and to challenge assumptions.
Working with key stakeholders to identify and remove blockers that delay delivery of the business goals. Identifying enablers and ensure lessons are learned, shared and best practices adopted. Using your skills, experience and insight, engaging with colleagues across the business, to potentially provide training and facilitated risk and issue workshops to programme/ project areas in support of achieving strategic goals, at the same time building strong stakeholder relationships.
