Visitor Experience Assistant

The local tourism sector in Northamptonshire supports over 13,500 jobs, welcomes over 20 million visitors and an out-bound visitor spend of over £1bllion in Northamptonshire every year.

A partnership between The Crown Estate (Rushden Lakes Shopping Centre) and North Northamptonshire Council will see a new Tourist Information Centre and community space created in an empty unit at Rushden Lakes. This project would expand on the vision in the North Northamptonshire council’s Corporate Plan to be a place where everyone has the best opportunities and quality of life.

The project will create new opportunities for local residents to engage with higher and further education partners such as the University of Leicester through on-site talks, workshops and travelling exhibitions. We’ll develop partnerships with local colleges to deliver hands-on tourism and hospitality training, and there will be opportunities for job seekers of all ages to gain new skills through volunteering and work experience, as well as meeting with local employers for recruitment days.

The Visitor Experience Assistant will support the Tourism Officer in the day management of the Discover Hub which will include meeting and greeting customers, generating sales leads for the meeting room hire / events spaces, delivering events, developing the retail offer and keeping the interactive screens / website up to date. Due to the nature of the business, regular weekend and Bank Holiday working is required.

Occasionally situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Tourism Officer. In addition, all employees are expected to adhere tothe organisations commitment to providing a safe and positive working environment for all.

**Overall purpose of the post**

1. To support the Tourism Officer in the day to day running of the Discover Northamptonshire Hub.

2. To develop new business operations such as the information hub advertising, shop, meeting room and events hire to ensure maximum revenue.

3. Supporting the Tourism Officer with operational budgets (income generation as well asexpenditure control).

**Main accountabilities**

1. Create great visitor experiences by organising and delivering visitor engagement activitiesto bring the centre to life in new and innovative ways.

2. Be friendly and informative sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm of the visitor attractions and partners in Northamptonshire.

3. Publicise the services of the Discover Hub and support the implementation of marketing strategies to raise the profile of the centre, increase footfall and sales, and generate more income.

4. To keep the interactive screens and consumer facing website up to date with new content.

5. Deliver craft workshops and events for target audiences.

6. To support with the delivery of the retail section including generating new leads.

7. To support the Tourism Officer with social media activity related to the promotion of the hub.

8. Deal with visitor enquiries, correspondence and complaints as necessary, in a timely andpositive manner to maintain/restore goodwill.

9. Observe all Health & Safety and statutory regulations.

This job description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holder and identifies alevel of responsibility at which they will be required to work. In the interests of effective working,the major tasks may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changing needs and circumstances. Such reviews and any consequential changes will be carried out in consultation with the post holder.
