**Job Title**:Safeguarding, Attendance and Medical Officer
**Pay Scale**:NJC 16 - 21 TTO (Term Time Only)
**Location**:Windmill Academy
**Line Manager**:LEAD DSL and Deputy Headteacher
**Job purpose**:
To lead on improving the attendance of all pupils in the academy.
To take on responsibilities for the day to day safeguarding practices (including child protection) by attending meetings, writing reports, forming links with families and pupils and co-operating with multi agencies.
To act as a co-ordinator for medical needs across the academy.
To strengthen the partnership between school and home.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Actively promote the Windmill’s vision, values and mission.
- Comply with all policies and procedures.
- Adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and
development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.
- Attend relevant academy meetings, as well as any other relevant meetings associated with this role.
- Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with all students, parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals including Local Authority and Childcare Service and Social Care, to develop and maintain these professional relationships.
- Take on the roles and responsibilities as determined by existing and successive legislation that may have an impact upon the role.
- To keep line manager fully informed about such matters as fall within the remit of the Safeguarding, Attendance and Medical Officer.
- To be aware of the requirements of the data protection act in respect of records maintained and tasks undertaken.
Attendance
- To work closely with the Senior Administrative Officer responsible for attendance to monitor and track all pupils attendance (absence and lateness).
- To analyse attendance data and identify families that need interventions to improve the attendance of their children in the form of further action through letters, meetings and Education Welfare referrals.
- To take supportive/remedial action in respect of individual absentees, to secure their regular attendance.
- To develop the policies/procedures/strategies in relation to the whole academy approach of managing individual pupil attendance and monitor the effectiveness/impact of these.
- To advise and assist parents and pupils to reduce pupils' persistent absence by identifying problems of which a pupil's irregular attendance may be a symptom, and maintain efficient and detailed records to monitor the outcomes of these interventions
- To make visits to pupils' homes on attendance matters, and to discuss with pupils and parents’ solutions to the barriers to learning they are experiencing, which is adversely affecting their attendance at the academy.
- To make home visits to check if children identified as vulnerable are not in school.
- Liaise with outside agencies, parents/carers, social services, Local Authority and/or organisations in relation to information on student attendance and punctuality.
- Produce analysis and reports on attendance data and interventions. To present and explain these to SLT, governors, LEAD School’s Director, Ofsted.
Safeguarding
- To respond to safeguarding concerns in a timely manner and refer to relevant agencies under direction of the Lead DSL.
- To liaise with staff on matters of safeguarding and safety, and when gathering information for a social care referral.
- To understand how to follow up with children and parents sensitively and appropriately when investigating initial safeguarding concerns.
- To keep detailed, accurate, timely and secure records of safeguarding concerns and referrals on the academy’s software system.
- Under the supervision of the LEAD DSL, be pro-active in the management of referrals including responsibilities of all children’s child protection folders.
- To promote an atmosphere in which parents/carers are encouraged to take responsibility for meeting the needs of their children and signpost parents to community resources that provide additional support.
- To actively increase their knowledge and skills around safeguarding including formal training, e-bulletins, meeting other designated safeguarding leads, or simply taking time to read and digest safeguarding developments.
- To understand the assessment process for providing early help and statutory intervention, including local criteria for action and local authority children’s social care referral arrangements.
- To have a working knowledge of how Local Authorities conduct a child protection case conference and a child protection review conference and be able to attend and contribute to these effectively when required.
