White City, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

Dementias represent one of the greatest medical and economic challenges facing our society today. The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) - a national, distributed network of centres - was created to address these challenges.

The UK Dementia Research Institute at Imperial is one of seven centres of excellence embedded in major UK universities. Hosted by the Department of Brain Sciences, the majority of research teams are located across the two west London research campuses: Hammersmith and White City, the major new campus designed to bring together scientific researchers, corporate partners, entrepreneurs and the local community to co-exist and co-create on an unprecedented scale. In REF 2021, Imperial ranks first in the UK for research outputs, first in the UK for research environment, and first for research impact among Russell Group universities, as well as first for the Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience Unit of Assessment (UoA4), reflecting excellence in the ongoing research activities of our department.

Following renewal of the UK DRI for a further five years, and significant investment by the Uren Foundation into dementia research, we are looking to **grow our Bioinformatics team with positions available for Research Assistant and Postdoctoral Research Associate level Bioinformaticists**. Under the overall responsibility of Prof Paul Matthews, UK DRI Centre Director and Head of Department of Brain Sciences, you will work closely with multidisciplinary research team of wet lab, computational and clinical staff and students, interacting with colleagues across the Centre and UK DRI nationally, expert staff in the BRC Genomics Core Facility and collaborators, as appropriate.

You will support data management, maintenance and curation of advanced software and, with guidance as necessary, perform cutting edge analyses of large-scale ‘omics (genomics, transcriptomics, ATAC sequencing, lipidomics and proteomics) to provide a multi-dimensional view of earliest pathological processes. The goal of this is to test concepts for therapeutics in silico and to discover and prioritise new therapeutic targets. Your work will be pursued together with that of a larger team experienced in bioinformatics, generation of ‘omics data and molecular neuropathology.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
What is the role?

We are looking for a driven, motivated person to
- Lead cutting edge analyses of large-scale ‘omics (genomics, transcriptomics, ATAC sequencing, lipidomics and proteomics)
- Conduct data analysis and mining
- Maintain highly organised and accurate records of all work carried out
- Work collegiately in a multidisciplinary research environment

**Essential requirements**:

- A PhD (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computational biology, or equivalent
- High-quality publication(s), including first author publication(s) in related disciplines
- Track record in bioinformatics, algorithm development or related large data informatics
- Advanced programming skills in Perl/Python and shell scripting or other equivalent languages relevant for bioinformatics

**Further information**:
The contract is offered full time, initially until 31 March 2027, with a salary range of £43,093 - £50,834 per annum. You will be based at White City Campus.
- The College believes that the use of animals in research is vital to improve human and animal health and welfare. Animals may only be used in research programmes which are ultimately aimed towards finding new treatments and making scientific and medical advances, and where there are no satisfactory or reasonably practical alternatives to their use. Imperial is committed to ensuring that, in cases where this research is deemed essential, all animals in the College’s care are treated with full respect, and that all staff involved with this work show due consideration at every level._ _Find out more about animal research at Imperial_._
